In case you don't know what heifer dust is...it's "a family-friendly term for something you find in cow pastures."

Those are the words of Lawton (Bud) Chiles III about the fact that in February Education Week declared that Florida was 8th in the nation. Most of us knew that was a joke, and he declares it as such.

He said we needed to invest in children.

This is a good interview.

He will be challenging Alex Sink in the Florida gubernatorial contest.

Here is more about his probable candidacy.

1. I am relatively new in Florida
I will vote for whoever is strongest on education, because it is in bad shape down here.

I'm interested to hear what he has to say.

2. All Democrats love charter schools, will go along with the party's plan...
to gradually fail 5 or 10% a year and turn them around. Turnarounds mean firing principals, or firing teachers, or both....or turning the school over to a private management company. No one intends to "fix" the schools, just privatize them.

Sink did not like the GOP state bill that Crist vetoed. However she loves charter schools which are privately run but financed with our tax money.

I am sure Bud loves them, too. All good Democrats do. None are really questioning, just going along for party unity.
