It doesn't translate well and I am not going to try and explain it in detail.
If you have a Thai friend you can ask them to explain it.
A short explanation is that the present King has been suffering a great deal and all Thais know that he has sacrificed more of his personal comfort to spending large amounts of time hiking and visiting the remote rural areas of the country - especially in the early decades of his rule - it is not unusual to meet rural people who have met the King many times while residents of Bangkok may have only met him on one occassion - receiving their graduation diplomas (for decades the King patiently personally handed out hundreds of thousands of diplomas to college graduates).
Its hard to say what role this little clip had in bringing the final denouement to the Red Shirt movement but you can judge from the reaction of the audience in the room that it was a very emotional moment and almost certainly played heavily on the minds of the remaining red shirt leaders who surrendered after the army confronted their barricades.
The fact that the Thai version had over 1.1 million hits in two days is a testimony to the impact that it had on Thais.
