2. how many times do we have to say enough |
|
Six times I have participated in reading off names of troops killed in Afghanistan at vigils or protests.
Four times and have typed up, or written on posters the names of troops killed in Afghanistan.
One time have cut and pasted the pictures of troops killed in Afghanistan who were from MN, that were made into colored posters that were framed and given to our Senators and Representatives of MN. (I wonder what Norm Coleman did with his)
Four times I have hugged the parent of a troop killed in Afghanistan.
One time I walked among the names and the boots representing troops killed in Afghanistan and tried to say a small prayer for each name, sometimes recognizing the names of those from IA or MN. ... One time helped the Vets for Peace to carry a long banner with the names of troops killed in the Veterans Parade.
I remember reaching 100, 500, and now 1000.
Countless times, have emailed or called Legislatures to stop the madness, countless times have came up to them to stop the madness, countless times have emailed others to help stop the madness.
This week or next our Representatives might vote to give 33 Billion more to the Occupation in Afghanistan.. and how many more troops will die after that vote?
One time, please make that call.

3. Reminds me of a poem, a prayer really: Iraq Death Toll 4,000 |
|
4,000 dead in five Is only 800 a year Less than 70 a month really Sixteen or seventeen a week Two and change a day.
What price two and change a day? If soldiers lives were dollars Their blood would barely pay for carfare.
So numbers serve their purpose Muffling carnage Beneath abstract aggregates Impersonalized totals amounting to nothing more Than a statistical means Of dulling the senses To the toll of war
A toll always paid in ones.
By the ones who die And by the ones who bury their dead.
But each death a self-sufficient tragedy Each death a complete and self-sufficient tragedy Neither made greater nor lessened When amplified by thousands.
Hear the death bells tolling Pleading for mercy on our souls
The death bells plead mercy On our souls.
As they echo plaintively Through all of bloodied history Pleading always for each death To be remembered As an irreparable tragedy By all that God should hold holy A complete and irreparable tragedy.
