4. Important note on Rand Paul. |
|
1. TYT Video: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=385x466862|The Problem(s) With Rand Paul>
2. Both of the TYT videos were recorded before Paul's infamous meltdown with Maddow.

I just wanted to post the clarification because Cenk's point was that Paul beat the corporate GOP establishment candidate and that he's in favor of some good positions (auditing the fed, stopping the wars, peeling back the Patriot Act, etc.)...BUT he's also radically wrong when it comes to other important issues, as explained in the first link I posted and as exposed by Rachel last night.

7. What meltdown with Maddow? |
|
I think Mr Rand Paul is a very refreshing and honest intellectual, who advocates a Libertarian philosophy and careful understanding of the Constitutional issues involved when laws are made. I saw no "meltdown", i saw a man with superior intelligence trying to teach a woman with a puerile mind set, whose aim is to sell you tampons and beer, not really engage in a serious political debate. Maddow is the Hannity of the American left, all bark, no substance.

11. A superior intelligence would have |
|
..handled the interview better, to start with. Being caught completely flat-footed, having apparently no clue as to how the majority of people feel about the issue, the superior intellect label doesn't explain that. If he had a case to make in favor giving racial discrimination a prominent role in private dealings, he failed to make it, even a little bit. How does someone with a superior intellect end up so utter clueless?

12. btw, the hannity comparison is so inept |
|
I don't know where to start. Maddow is a rhodes scholar whose show includes careful investigation of facts, plenty of background information, lots of sarcasm (too much sometimes) along with science stories and even some drink mixing tips. Errors are quickly corrected. Opposing view points are represented, and those people who are subjects of stories are always invited to come on the show. Hannity repeats the same lies every day. not just opinions, out-right demonstrable lies told over and over, like when he says Bush inherited a recession. We have a definition for recession and Bush didn't inherit a recession. Hannity didn't just say it once, he says it nearly everyday. Just like he says that Bill Ayres and Obama were close friends. It's a lie he tells constantly, almost everyday. I think we should insist that attendees of his rip-off-the-vets freedom concerts should be open-carry events, then watch how quickly he cancels his own appearance there.

I may have missed it but I don't think he talked about the Democrat in the Kentucky race at all. Conway's win was huge for progressives, certainly more than Paul's.
