2. Mixed feelings indeed.
I am not sure this really has anything to do with the census worker. These people were aggressive with that worker and then aggressive with the police. The census worker wasn't endangering anybody and, one hopes, the police didn't plan to do so either. To my mind this is another example of "live by the sword; die by the sword" in action.

God I hate guns, especially guns in the hands of idiots be they police or civilians.

3. Ratigan
I got to say that everyday when Ratigan's show comes on I turn the channel to CNN.
If Ratigan would use the 'voice' that he is using in the above video then I would watch him on MSNBC,
but the majority of the time on MSNBC he seems to be 'hollering' all the time.
This is the first time that I've ever been able to actually listen to what he says without wanting to turn him off! LOL :)

24. not me
i like ratigan alot. and like his show more than any of them. He is more real. He critisizes the right wingers who are crazy and is unlike the others @ MSNBC who kiss obamas butt. He calls obama out when he screws us. I respect that much more than olberman and maddow who are constantly trying to turn anything into a race issue to get ratings up because the know racism always draws attention.
Ratigian is MSNBC's best.

7. Part of the training of the census worker should be to move on if people
are not polite.... Collecting census info. should not result in this kind of out come ever......

16. It is. And she did. It IS the training to move on. It is also training to report it so
any followup person doesn't have to encounter the same risk. The supervisor called the cops. (It is BTW a federal offense to threaten a Census worker) and when the lady in the house pulled the shotgun on police they acted like they usually do and shot her. Not the census workers fault. You pull a gun on police, it doesn't usually end well.

8. Here's a clue: If a person tells you to leave their property, then fucking leave.
Why did the census worker call the cops? They should have just went on and minded their own fucking business.

9. Duh
They called the cops number one because that's what they tell you to do in the training but much more importantly if the story is to be believed they pulled a gun on the census worker which in the least should be investigated. I obviously don't agree with the outcome but the census worker was just doing their job of trying to get the people to give the answers to a few simple questions and did not deserve to be threatened in any way. So your point is if somebody pulls a gun on you then you should say 'oh my bad sorry to have bothered you' and not think anything of it? Again nobody deserved to die over this and it sounds like the police may have overreacted (though if somebody comes out with a shotgun you don't have a lot of time to decide how to react) but the census worker did nothing wrong.

10. You have to report it.
If you don't the next census worker to arrive at that home might not walk away alive.
You have to list a reason why the home was not counted. There is always follow-up to get the count. If she left and said nothing the next guy might not be so lucky.
Do you not understand why and how the census is done?
You state "They should have just went on and minded their own fucking business." This was her business and I might add she was doing a job for us.

11. She didn't call the cops
The census worker told the supervisor about what happened and the SUPERVISOR called the cops. As for the rest, I'm not sure why the police decided to arrest the guy in his own home for having a gun, but I don't know what California gun laws are like either (or what kind of action he was taking with his gun).

14. Possibly because
the census is in the constitution, and you're supposed to comply with it. The gun not being the issue as much as non-compliance?

Not everything is gun rights.

17. Here's another clue: perhaps you should read (or listen, in this case) to the whole story.
The supervisor called the police. It is unlawful to threaten a federal census worker and when the (old enough to know better) woman aimed a shotgun at police they...well you know the rest of the story.

21. Listen again...minute 1:50
She told the supervisor...the supervisor told her to call the police. It was the census worker who called, not the supervisor.

22. Yes, that's what's said by the assistant recounting the story. However, other reports
clearly stated someone OTHER than the census worker actually called police:

"The census worker LEFT the scene, reported the incident to her supervisor. The report worked its way up the chain of command and someone higher up made the decision to report the incident to the police."

Not that it really matters.

I had a nut pull a rifle on me when I worked the census. We were trained to leave and to inform our supervisors, and let them handle it.

This worker did the right thing.

25. Yep and she wasn't very smart.
You pull a shotgun on a cop and you find out what happens. Thins out the gunnut gene pool. Neither she or the boyfriend were the sharpest tacks in the box, obviously.
