1. This is the main story, only oil companies are equipped for high pressure deep sea maintanance...
Edited on Fri May-28-10 12:23 PM by ProgressOnTheMove
This all takes specialist equipment only developed by oil companies, going to levels and pressures beyond most submarines cap agilities and hole that is worryingly large.. At least he's confirmed, that within the Government's capacity they are doing all they can. It's dilemma situation no President would want to face. I can only hope he has the best of luck. I'm not trying to defend him at all costs, if I knew he could fix it and wasn't, I'd be right there but given the information it's in the hands of BP. I want it stop, everyone wants it to stop but at this point no magic answers. One thing we can never lose sight of Carter making the case for solar independance and intalling them to the WH, Reagan coming to power on the back of oil money and removing them from the WH roof and the GOP creating the poltical environment that pushed the meme drill here drill now.

3. This should anger democrats
On the nolo news comments section, the hostility, insults and disrespect are making me unsympathetic to the clowns who live down there. They claim he is lazy, worthless, and uncaring. I wish he would tell them to handle it themselves and not waste his time, and tax dollars, if they feel the way the comments indicate. A sample:

Where is his bucket and shovel? What the hell is he here for? "Oh, thank God you came. Now it's all better!"
Whatever
Roll them sleeves up. Act like you care!

Seriously, there is no point in Obama showing up other than to provide the facade that he and his administration are not hopelessly incompetent in their response to this situation. I know that this will anger the morons that support the lying coward in the White House but Obama's response here is far far worse than GWB's response to Katrina. You know it as well as the rest of us but you will never admit it so don't even bother attempting to justify the inaction of your President. Just tell him to go back on his second vacation since all this started and to forget about it lest it throws off his golf game.

When will we elect a REAL American, someone NOT from Harvard or Yale, the silver spoon schools ? These so called schools are indoctrination clinics for thieves. They scheme how to rip off the taxpayers.

How about someone who went to Iowa or Nebraska, Kansas or Florida. These IVY LEAGUE schools have PROVEN to overeducate IDIOTS. Look at the financial shape these "geniuses" have put us in. The country is WORSE than broke.

He sees dolphins and says "Obviously there is some precious wildlife out there".
WOW. He is clueless. The marshes sustain just about all life in this fragile ecosystem. Apparently, a Harvard education does not teach you about "our precious coastal environment".
Get a clue Mr. President.

5. This is a copy of comments made by some of the Louisiana
citizens.

Don't call me a bigot or racist! I do not believe race exists except in a racists perception. I am also from Scandinavia and have been socialist all my life which means I consider racism to be the most poisonous problem in society.

Why is it racist to point out the disrespect shown to our president?

8. Why some folks say this is Obama's Katrina is beyond me...
... he wasn't warned this was coming, as Bush was about Katrina. The government isn't trained or equipped to respond to something that far under sea level, but they are trained and equipped to respond to hurricanes and floods. I do think the government should have done more to keep it from reaching the Gulf Coast and the president should have visited the affected areas a lot sooner.
