Keith talks to columnist Dan Savage about the hateful anti-gay rhetoric coming from the opponents of the repeal of DADT and Savage makes a great point about what we're seeing now.

Olbermann: Is there something you think particularly about gay's serving in the military that these people don't like or is it as you're suggesting, this is like a time line which wherever they encounter "the gay"... these bizarre straight people, presumably straight people, who knows, have to over react just because this is the latest battlefield, no pun intended?

Savage: Well first that's a really great point. Who knows who's lifting these people's luggage, these folks who are sort of paranoid about people being fellated in their sleep. I'd like to see what's going on in their heads. I think they're projecting, some of them. Whenever they're on the verge of losing they trot out these desperate nightmare scenarios and they really are on the verge of losing the last two final issues when it comes to gay rights such as service in the military and marriage.

Savage was spot on with that remark. Every one of these anti-gay bigots strikes me as just another self-loathing closeted gay hypocrite who can't resolve their own issues with trying to fight off "teh gay" since they've been told their own natural impulses are a sin. And then we have John McCain who is simply pandering to the far right as he worries about getting reelected since he's got wingnut J.D. Hayworth running against him.

I found out our former company didn't hire a qualified applicant for a position because the person organizing the search 'suspected they were gay' - the organizer literally said 'we think he might be gay, and you know how they can be... they throw tantrums and stuff' - yes, said with a straight face (literally and no pun intended at the same time) When confronted about the ridiculousness of the statement, she relied on the fact that a member of the senior staff felt the same way 'no, no, it's true - even John said so'.

This is the kind of reactionary idiocy that prevails through the darker ranks of the GOP and the slower, less educated portions of the country.

Reason again to better our education system and continue to bring these people out from the darkness of their ignorance and into the light of reality.

3. I think those poll numbers are wrong..

I swear almost everyone I know is homophobic and outright condone violent acts against gay people, its disgusting how these so called "conservative" people are so hateful. I doubt the majority of Americans, who by the way are ignorant, really want to allow gays in the military.

I can relate to your story about your boss because I had a boss as well who is a homophobe who has passed up qualified applicants because he suspected them for being gay.

Then again I'm from Texas maybe that explains it all. :(

There's not a person in my family or friends who don't believe in equality for all or none - even my brothers from eastern Oregon ... who most would consider rednecky, think it's time to end DADT and DOMA.

Because they espouse an ideology that isn't grounded in reality they must change history. And it will work with their followers because their followers have been shown to believe ANYTHING they are told.
