3. About two weeks ago One Touch |
|
sent me a letter. They told me to check the test strips - and gave us numbers- saying that those strips were defective. For us not to use them and take them back and they would be replaced. I did not have any of the strips so I felt safe. But now I am disgusted when I find out what could have been wrong. I have Diabetes II but suppose I had number I. Then I would have taken the wrong amount of insulin. And now that a lot of people with Diabetes II are taking insulin it could happen to them. AND one touch glues test strips are not cheap...if insurance did not pay for them they would cost 85 dollars for a box.

5. Very glad to hear One Touch was on top of this. |
|
A lot of companies would've just buried their heads in the sand. Nice you didn't have to hear it on tv, but I hope that anyone who hasn't heard finds out and checks into it.

and I use a one touch meter.
And yeah, I would not at all be surprized to hear that this has killed someone. More than likely, several someones.
Someone is responsible for QC on this product entering the US, and they should be taken out and shot.

4. Why Does This Kind Of Thing Get thru |
|
but they lecture us about the safety issue if we try to buy from Canada? Many of the meds we buy are from overseas in the first place. But they are not considered safe until the pharm industry gets' their cut.

15. they blame it on China |
|
They blame China they so they don't have to put the credit on the corporatist pigs, they blame China so they don't have to bring up the issue of government oversight. If the companies were held to a quality control standard then there would not be this issue. Same thing happened a few years back with flu vaccine from England that was manufactured by an American company. They knew there were problems with the production, but nothing was done about it until we got into a bird flu scare. Then it became a crisis issue. Mattel recalled toys because of lead in the paint, some of the toys recalled were Polly Pocket toys and those have been out for years. It suddenly became an issue last week? It is something that has been going on for awhile but they never said anything because corporations were making a killing and there was not a financial argument with China. Our government looking out for the corporations best interest once again! When they got caught, they blamed it on China. Just my opinion and why I despise corporatist pigs.

18. Kinda gets your goat, doesn't it? |
|
Remember when Bush got up before the nation and justified his refusal to allow medicare to negotiate lower drug prices from Canada because "he was protecting us from inferior drugs from 'third-world countries'?" Then we get all this crap from China.
Whenever I picture him saying that, it makes my blood boil...:grr:

6. As a longtime nurse, I can't even begin to express my dismay at this. |
|
Diagnostic testing is being outsourced.
Just today, when I was instructing a patient on how to use their glucometer, I was stymied because the test strip didn't have the standard reaction when supplied with the control test fluid.
The strips ordinarily act as a quick pipelle for the control fluid, or blood, to the meter, but today nothing I did could get the test strip to pipelle the control fluid. I threw away two test strips because the machine wouldn't take them, due to insufficiency of sample, after trying every angle from the bottle.
I have never had this happen until today.
Fortunately, when the patient self tested, with their own blood, it worked. Reading this today really pisses me off.
I have been seeing the manufacturer's names on medications and vaccines change from long time pharmaceutical manufacturers' names like Merck or Pasteur or Smith-Glaxo to names which are completely unfamiliar.
Now, even the test strips upon which a patient's care is determined are not valid.

someone in this country is going to die because of a Chinese product, if they haven't already. I can't fucking believe they're importing these test strips.
I thought that pharmaceuticals from Canada were supposed to be so dangerous. A defective damned glucose test strip is just as dangerous as a defective drug. I guess they figured China had better standards than Canada. :sarcasm:

10. These strips were not made for Johnson & Johnson they were counterfeit |
|
...strips sold as Johnson & Johnson products, but bogus in their performance. They were black-marketed and sold to medicare recipients by mail order, certain insurance providers and distributed to independent pharmacies in minority neighborhoods.
The news story is missing the whole issue. These are bogus products and can and did injure people. So why has Johnson & Johnson who knew about this a year ago, just now addressing this? They covered this up while millions of people with diabetes were put at risk.

11. It's getting to the point.... |
|
where every time I take the first drink out of a fresh bottle of juice, Or take the first Tylenol out of a package, Or eat the first piece of pineapple from a can if they will be my last. This is pathetic. I don't know if you are all aware of this, but we are already at War with China and Russia.. Funny thing is we shop at Wal-Mart and fund their Military, while our Military sits there with no FUCKING Equipment!

13. I showed it to Hubby, and he said that he's been getting complaints. |
|
He wonders if this is what his patients have been talking about--home monitors not giving consistent, good results. Maybe those strips weren't the only ones that were faulty.
Good gravy, this is bad. Pregnancy strips? TB tests? Seriously--this is massively bad.
No more Chinese products!!!
