MSNBC The Rachel Maddow Show - June 29, 2010:

$58.5 Billion in profits over the last three years. $29 million on safter drilling research during that period.

Amount of money spent on spill clean-up research during that time?

Zero.

3. how much on advertising? in comparison?
how about how much on those nifty ads after this mess started compared to how much they have spent on clean up. or better yet, how much they've given to the gulf coast victims of their bs.

6. I would love to know the answer to this!
I don't have a tv, I don't watch tv except for news clips on DU. But the classic rock radio station on all day at work spews BP propaganda at least once an house. :puke: I'm glad I don't have to watch any tv spots. Just knowing they paid to take out two-page ads in the NYTs indicates they're spending obscene amounts of money on post-disaster advertising.

4. If America (and the world) is going to avert these kinds of crises...
... then it's time to stop talking and pointing fingers.

Obama told America that if we can win WWII and put a man on the moon, we can stop the BP spill and solve our dependency on fossil fuels.

But there's a missing piece: the soldiers in WWII had the Pentagon and Neil Armstrong had NASA. Is it time for an organized, funded effort? One that (a) figures out how to deal with messes like the BP spill, since we're not going to stop using oil tomorrow, and (b) figures out how to stop using oil the day after tomorrow.

I'll end with a video response - it's satire, but makes the point.

5. I am so glad we have a Democrat in charge, imaging how useless the response would be under a
Republican. I bet someone from the Green party would just be paralyzed by confusion.

8. MSRC is a good company, They have a boat right next to mine.
They deployed when there was a spill in the SF Bay. Their equipment is well kept and top notch. I don't falt them for not researching. they use proven technology and seem to really care. There just not a R&D company.
