7. Funniest memory of my pop

After my mother died, I gave the kitchen cabinets a cleanout, discarding the 20+ year old bottles of oregano, the open and mildewed pasta, the opened boxes of everything, the bulging cans. As I was ready to toss a box of cereal that had been hers and that he didn't like, he objected, said it was still good, and took it out of my hand.

A palmetto bug crawled out of the box and up his arm. The look on his face was priceless.

Needless to say, those cabinets were cleaned out and user friendly within another hour. He didn't say another word.
