On the 75th anniversary of Social Security, President Obama promises to protect it from Republican leaders in Congress who have made privatization a key part of their agenda. He makes clear that, especially in light of the financial crisis, gambling Social Security on Wall Street makes no sense.

1. Curious why the protector of Social Security would appoint a Debt Commission
stacked with rabid anti-entitlement Conservatives to "fix" it. Could it be the "scare the public with Privatization" so they will accept raising the retirement age and lowering the benefits, and feel grateful in doing so?
