2. Wow, one of my all time favorite songs...
put together with those images, that's incredibly powerful.

Man, I don't know what's wrong with me today. Someone stole my filter. I can't stop crying.

3. I can still remember the first time I heard it
So clear, so powerful, and so obvious to a confused eight year old back in 1972.

5. First time I heard it was watching
Edited on Sat Aug-25-07 02:24 PM by kdmorris
The Legend of Billy Jack. I don't know when it came out, but I didn't see it until I was about 16 or so, in the 80's.

6. Thank you
I heard the song the other day and was amazed that it applies to our world today. I hope for peace soon and can't wait to take back our country!

7. bu$h( Do it in the name of heaven, justify it in the end ) Great Video!K&R

:nopity:Listen children to a story that was written long ago
'bout a kingdom on a mountain and the valley folk below.
On the mountain was a treasure buried deep beneath a stone,
and the valley people swore they'd have it for their very own.

Go ahead and hate your neighbor, go ahead and cheat a friend.
Do it in the name of heaven, justify it in the end.
There won't be any trumpets blowin' come the judgment day
on the bloody morning after one tin soldier rides away.

So the people of the valley sent a message up the hill
asking for the buried treasure, tons of gold for which they'd kill.
Came an answer from the kingdom: "With our brothers we will share
all the secrets of our mountain, all the riches buried there."

Go ahead and hate your neighbor, go ahead and cheat a friend.
Do it in the name of heaven, justify it in the end.
There won't be any trumpets blowin' come the judgment day
on the bloody morning after one tin soldier rides away.

Now the valley cried with anger; mount your horses, draw your sword,
and they killed the mountain people, so they won their just reward.
Now they stood beside the treasure on the mountain, dark and red,
turned the stone and looked beneath it. "Peace on earth" was all it said.

Go ahead and hate your neighbor, go ahead and cheat a friend.
Do it in the name of heaven, justify it in the end.
There won't be any trumpets blowin' come the judgment day
on the bloody morning after one tin soldier rides away. George needs a history lesson. The war in Viet Nam was approved by Congress because of the Gulf of Tonkin incident. Congress was told North Vietnam attacked a US Navy ship in the Gulf. One big problem - the attack never happened. Then Defense Secretary McNamara in his recent film “The Fog of War” admits it… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pbJLwk-bJaA

 Sorry for the long post but this song brings it all back!:cry::cry:

10. Billy Jack.... God I remember when I first saw it and how it lit fires....
And it seems so dated now. I guess we need a new Billy Jack.

11. Good Job. . . I'm not sure that this is Coven's version though
or the Original Caste's version.

Coven's version that I think appeared in Billy Jack:

<http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AM4ADoVc6TU>

Original Caste's (first?) version:

<http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yI9rwH4lDDk&mode=related&search=>

But not that it matters, whatever version it is, it's not a song that you can forget.

13. Here's another good version. . .
showing the devastation we've created in Iraq.

<http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qCCR2huE2m8>

It uses Coven's version of the song, which wasn't much of a hit nationally (maybe no. 40 in the charts) but was a huge hit in the LA are from which I'm from.

Here's a nice version from a choir:

16. It's a timeless song
Edited on Sat Aug-25-07 10:49 PM by proReality
Humanity never seems to learn, we just keep repeating the worst possible behavior over and over. This song always makes me cry.

Edited to add what I just found on a site I wouldn't have expected to see it on:

This song has a lesson to it -- violence is not the way. Please visit the Department of Justice Kids Page and Federal Bureau of Investigation Kids Page for more information about the criminal justice system and what you can do!

(by Lambert-Potter, sung by Coven)

Listen, children, to a story
That was written long ago,
'Bout a kingdom on a mountain
And the valley-folk below.

I wonder how long it will be before they take it down and put up Onward Christian Soldiers.

17. any room for dissent here?
I thought "Billy Jack" was one of the dumbest, phoniest movies ever. Billy Jack goes around preaching peace and nonviolence, but in half the scenes he kicks the living shit out of someone.
The characters are cardboard cutout stereotypes.
Don't even get me started about that song.
