A fellow DU'er posted Chris Jordan's website here a few weeks ago and I was so stunned by his work, I wrote and asked if I could put it in a video. He was kind enough to say yes so here it is. Unfortunately, YouTube's resolution leaves a lot to be desired so I recommend you visit his website to get a clearer picture of what he's done.

3. And the point is?

Yes we are a very populous country of 300 MILLION with a high standard of living because as a people decided have improve our country with our own pursuit of happiness using our God given talents. Is this something to be ashamed of? Should I crap in the street and live in a cardboard box instead? Half the stuff shown is utimately recycled anyway...the pallets, automobiles, plastic bags, steel barrells,etc.. Where is the montage of the number of tampons used per day? Jeeezch! If we live in such a terrible society why are so many desperate to come here?

4. "High standard of living"
you mean the standard of living where we work 10-16 hours a day so that we can buy cheap crap from Wal-Mart that was made in China that wears out or breaks in a year or two? Where we have one of the highest rates of depression and homicide in the civilized world? Where we are ranked #99 in literacy and #37 in "free nations"? Could that, in part, be because are children are being taught that happiness comes from having stuff and success means having more stuff than anyone else? No wonder we have such a high depression and divorce rate! Consumerism is king here; 24% of our planet's resources are being consumed by 4% of the population, and it's taking it's toll

How about refilling a bottle instead of buying bottled water? Some families spend $1,200 a year just for bottled water-the source for much of which is...tap water! Why not insist on durable clothing, shoes, and other items that are made in THIS COUNTRY. That aren't toxic and will last for decades? Why not have less packaging on products-we're losing forests and using loads of oil just to produce pointless crap that ends up in landfills (only 3% of all plastic produced is recycled). How about taking a cloth bag to the supermarket instead of carrying home a half dozen disposable bags? Did you know that those plastic bags are the #1 threat to all marine life?

Have you ever been to England, Canada, France, and Switzerland? Those countries and many others are TEEMING with immigrants. We are not the world's #1 choice anymore because the rest of the planet isn't watching fox news.

If you really have to ask "and the point is"? it's about time you saw this: http://www.climatecrisis.net/

5. Yes, it is something we should be ashamed of
We are depleting the earth of its natural resources and starting wars to steal what's left of them. And no, the majority of the country is not recycling as they should and the refuse is stunning BECAUSE we are a nation of 300 million. If the visual awareness Chris Jordan has created will give pause to the enormity of our consumption, and we all do a small part and add less to the pile, then it's worthwhile.

By the way, your tampon comment is very tacky and I can only presume you are no gentleman.
