Think about it, let's say that these Teabaggers and Ditto heads convince them to move their Mosque to a new location (smack dab in the middle of Alabama, perhaps?). Would we as a country be better off? It makes me think of a scenario where a bunch of KKK members and "Real Americans" fight to prevent a black family from moving into their neighborhood. Let's say that they have some "valid reason" for protesting that this black family does not move into their neighborhood. For arguments sake, let's say they all are up in arms that "The property value will go down". In the end, they win and the black family moves somewhere else. Who is really the winner in this type of situation? What kind of absolute insane message does this say about our country.

An interesting hypocrisy here is that you can take anybody in that crowd and ask them why we invaded Iraq and since a Republican President decidered it, they have NO OTHER FUCKING CHOICE but to recite the party line of "We wanted to liberate them". Just insanely blatant hypocrisy on every single thing they "stand for".

I really fear for our country. If something like this can be stirred up so quickly, just how far are we from violent encounters. It very nearly happened in this video. What is wrong with our country? What happened to us? Are we even in America anymore? I am so sad right now. I am so disturbed. I do not want to turn this into an Obama Bashing Thread...However, President Obama's act of "appearing" to back off of his "principled" stand is also disturbing. No one...I mean no one can tolerate ambiguous statements. It isn't just the subject matter...although, perhaps this would have progressed to this point on its own...it isn't the subject matter as much as it is a lack of leadership... a clear message. There is no one countering these people partly because of an ambiguous message that none of us can attach our star to. We can counter this if the argument were framed better...But alas, this administration lost control of the message very early.

I am not here to bash the President...Or at least I don't want to. We just need strong leadership...now more than ever.

Was there a way to stop this progression towards hate...us vs. them? Maybe not...maybe this was inevitable. However, it appears that the divide (and hate against Islam) is greater now than it was even during the peak of the 9/11 event. Yes...maybe it has to do with the president's race...In fact...I'm sure it plays a role.

I tried during the Presidential campaign to ride both sides of the rail. On one hand I was so proud that we were putting forward a person of color. It was about time. On the other hand, I was warning people that this country may not have been ready for this historical event...our country was still so racist that a person of color would present challenges above and beyond the enormous hurdles we already had to overcome (due to the insanity of the previous administration). I was heavily criticized for making this observation. I AM NOT MAKING A JUDGEMENT OF PRESIDENT OBAMA. His presence is a challenge that we need to face both personally and as a country. It had to be done. If not now...sometime in the future. Face it...We live in a far more racist country than I ever imagined. Maybe you were more aware than I. I sometimes sit in silence and wonder what will become of us. I feel for our President and the enormous challenges facing him.
