We have paid into our health coverage for years now, the amount increasing every single year. As teachers, we take a salary smaller than what we would get in the private sector for health and retirement benefits. Our compensation is deferred. We have been losing jobs, have to buy more and more of our own supplies (I spend easily $2000 a year on what I need to make my class work, of which I get to deduct $250 if Congress allows it on any given year), have ballooning class sizes, new mandates with no directions...and an increasingly hostile attitude towards the profession. I work my ass off making my class the best it can be...I even took a few months last year and recorded my entire course (which I did during my free time, coming in an hour early every day and finishing late at night) and putting it up on YouTube, just so my students could come up with excuses not to watch them. I have gotten feedback from all over the world, but from my own students, only excuses. Still, I soldier on, even in the face of a hateful public.

3. Curious what jobs most teachers could get that would in the private sector |

Elementary Ed and some of the other majors have little commercial value.
