1. Excellent analysis of the problem.
It's structural, and it has to do with our trade and monetary policies. Americans are hardworking, well educated workers. No problem there. But as long as people in other countries can survive on a tiny fraction of what Americans really need to live, then we can't compete with them.

Do we really want to forget about having running water and electricity in our homes, about heating our houses in the winter, about having public schools and a fire department and libraries and up-to-date medical care? Because if we keep this up, in 20-30 years, we won't have some of those things. We simply won't be able to afford them.

A jobless recovery = an incomeless recovery = no recovery for the majority of Americans.

2. got it, if you don't create jobs people are forced, sometimes, into illegal jobs
simply because they need to eat, they need to bathe; that's why after GOP rule there's alot of 'stuff' in the back of newspapers, & now online, too. One way or another people need jobs, & there are alot of potential jobs out there to be created. I saw that headline about Sewage spill reported in Sac Bee. reroute the sewage pipes to power plants & you'd have renewable electric power. Replacing crumbling asphalt roads with Roman concrete because it lasts longer. Remove all oil, gas, paper subsidies. Plow ahead with electric cars, no matter what they say. Bring back railroads, make them high-speed too. Again, don't listen to naysayers. Force building codes to put skylights in all north-facing rooms in houses, with big 18th C style windows in the other rooms. Pass a law that requires scientists to take a number of samplings from every Chinese import, so it would eliminate more of the lead & cadmium in jewelry, & melamine in infant formula, cat food, & dog food.

3. The economy could be cured
very quickly with the proper stimulus. After a short time we would actually have a labor shortage. It would happen.

4. The Republicans via Rupert Murdoch's Media Empire...
Have officially turned the public against that which kept them out of a worse depression than the one in the 30's along with any future stimulus...How do you explain complex economic issues to a public that believes in Death Panels or a in which 30+% think Obama is not an American citizen, or to a public in which 45% think their demi-god will return in their lifetime to save them from the evil secular agenda!

With much of the MSM AWOL & more concerned with covering fights instead of facts...The GOP via Rupert Murdoch's Empire that plays GOP talking points the same across paper, web & TV 24/7/365 will continue to control enough of the public opinion to get what they want!

I see no way of getting around this insanity!

6. I know they are controlling the message.
Not a word about deficits for eight years now that is our main media focus. And this doesn't register at all.

9. Look how fast they turned the public against...
Health Care Reform...Financial Reform...and toward almost anything the Democrats want to do!

They could turn a "majority" of Americans against a cure for cancer if they tried...I cannot believe how easy some people's minds can be used!

There really is no defense against it considering the MSM is AWOL!

5. No doubt
and that stimulus would (as Cenk said) need to be structural. We could probably really reduce unemployment with superficial stimuli, but without structural changes ( fair trade not free trade, people before profits>by law, living wages, universal health care, etc..) it will only benefit the people a little and keep them, although employed, from enjoying a "real life."
When you have to Constantly work to stay afloat, you and your loved ones suffer.
Germany recognized this decades ago, because of FDR (his second "bill of rights", and created a fairly good labor policy (and universal health care of course) for their citizens.
So often, I read that "if you progressively tax the wealthy, they will just move to another, less heavily taxed, country. Let them go!
The jobs they create (if any) are mostly in countries with slave labor (extremely low labor prices) and do not help our economy anyway.
Seriously, it is all a scam for the wealthy.
If I had the capital, connections (I can find those easy enough),etc..WEALTH! I could hop on a flight to China. Locate a factory(ies) that produce products that I could sell, and set up a very profitable retail or distributorship, instead of working for a living.
Amazingly (?)..lol... wealth is concentrated in the hands of a very small percentage of our population.
Does anyone think that is by accident?
Wouldn't it make much more sense (fair trade), that (still a person of wealth) could locate that factory in America and do the same thing? If we still had the type of tariffs (pre-seventies and Chinas "most valued trade status"), the wealthy entrepreneur could.
Americans, like Europeans, could earn a living wage and belong to trade Unions to collectively bargain.

I could go on and on... "our politicians" profit handsomely from keeping the "system" the way it is. Who is this little pissant to say "this is not right."?

7. Of course it's a scam.
And the outraged people don't recognize the real enemy. They understand outsourcing hurts us but they continue to vote against their own best interests.
