To boost your ratings, simply expell an unpopular ethnic group from your country..

Unbelieveable.

2. Everybody knows Sarkozy is of Hungarian descent.
Why is he picking on gypsies? Is it some prejudice his family brought from Hungary? There were lots of gypsies in Hungary at one time and the relationship was not always harmonious.

Here we go again. Times are tough so people start stereotyping and point fingers at outsiders. Minorities beware.

5. It's just populism, appealing to the dissatisfied right-wingers.
Just like Berlusconi.

3. I'm missing something here.
Am I to understand that the French government is expelling the Gypsies? How can the president of any democratic county expel anyone? I am confused. Need more data. "Hal. Open the door. Hal!"

4. It's incredible but yes they are expelling gypsies.
Even gypsies with French passports, as i understand. Kids that speak french, are sent to live in Eastern Europe.

This is just one case in a long, long stream of atrocities committed against them in europe. They are actually officially banned in certain countries in eastern europe as well, and both the nazis and the Romanians tried to wipe them out in the holocaust of world war 2. Apparently the Germans didnt like sending gypsies to the gas chamber because they fought the guards every inch of the way, they never gave up.

No government has figured out how to handle them and their way of life, which is so vastly different from ours. Many of them are in effect nomads.
