2. Whatta shock! Normally NFLers are such intellectual heavyweights!
Perhaps it will come as a shock to some people to learn that sensitivity and intellectual abilities are rarely considered in choosing a defensive tackle.

It is only our celebrity-obsessed society that pushes these ill-equipped human specimens into the public spotlight. Heaven knows, there are occasionally smart and sensitive football players (cf. Pat Tillman). But that is most definitely not a requirement for the job.

7. Oh Horse shit...
I've been around football all of my life--- High School College and the Pros and a great majority of the players are smart and damn good people.

Oh sure you have a couple of knuckleheads in the game---just like you have a couple of knuckleheads here on DU who spout shit when they have no idea what they are talking about.

Hint.

4. You should see the response on the Saints blogs
down here.

Expect Hampton to apologize, or get yanked from the show.

But as another poster said, it just adds fuel to an already raging fire.

Oh, and speaking of football players who can also carry their intellectual weight - Drew Brees.

5. Uh, that was tame compared to homophobic comment about the Cowboys.

I am classic Cowboys hater, but this comment is simply ludicrous.

What's worse is that it's clear that Hampton has been practicing these lines. These are off-the-cuff "mistakes," which would be bad enough.

11. Cowboy fans are used to stuff like this
The ugly really comes out by the haters when it comes to Dallas. The comments when the facility was blown down a couple of years ago were unbelievable. There are people who would openly applaud if a Dallas Cowboy charter would crash.

You can be a "hater" and classy such as yourself. I appreciate your kind words.

12. Dan Hampton apologizes for Katrina remark
Hall of Fame Bears defensive lineman Dan Hampton, who said on the Pro Football Weekly television show that the Vikings should go to New Orleans on Thursday night "and hit that town like Katrina," has issued an apology for his comments.

"I would like to offer my most sincere apologies to everyone who was offended in any way by my reference to Hurricane Katrina in our most recent 'Pro Football Weekly' TV show," Hampton said in an item posted at the PFW website.

"It was a spur-of-the-moment comment intended strictly as a metaphor for the storm-like intensity I believe the Vikings will bring to their rematch with the Saints, and it simply never occurred to me that anyone could read anything more than that into it.

"I have nothing but the deepest respect and greatest admiration for the people of the Gulf Coast, and I am horrified that even one of you would think I would make light of the terror Katrina wrought, and that I have clearly offended so many of you.

"I realize now it was a terrible choice of words, and I offer absolutely no excuses. I screwed up, about as badly as I could, and I am deeply and profoundly sorry."
