3. I can't go to the rally, but I will be watching closely for some signs of hope. |

My problem is not deciding how to vote. If I vote, I will vote Democratic. My problem, and I'm sure I'm not alone in this, is that I can't participate in the GOTV, precinct walking and tabling that I would normally be doing -- because I could not pretend to be enthusiastic about what Democrats have accomplished and done thus far. The record is just not something I can brag about. In fact, as far as I am concerned, Obama has not even signaled plans to do things worth working for and certainly not worth bragging about.
It's just very sad. Obama's presidency has been mediocre -- and it isn't due to the economy. The economy has presented a great challenge, and great challenges are an opportunity for great presidents.
Maybe if Rahm and a few others of Obama's aides go, then we will have a record to campaign on, but now -- we don't.
I was thinking this morning about a number of my friends who have lost their homes and jobs and are looking, looking, looking. These are people in their 50s and early 60s -- not yet eligible for Social Security. They are so scared.
If only Obama could have taken some of the money he has allowed the Fed to funnel to the banks and, instead, helped neighborhoods, churches and other organizations, establish more community self-help groups. He chose a theme of community organizing when he first entered the presidency -- but he seemed to lose that idea and get mired in the problems at the Fed and in banking. He now seems to view the world only through the bullet-proof windows of his limousine.
There are so many things Obama could have done and still could do that would really not cost that much money and would bring people back into a sense of mutual support and community. Instead, he has spent all his time with his Wall Street buddies. Sad mistakes that cannot be undone.

4. Its not so much being excited about who to vote for but |
|
but being motivated to prevent Boner to becoming Speaker and subpoena power in the hands of whacko's who could care less about getting this country back on its feet, but rather just obsessed with their own personal gotcha vendetta's.

7. voting against =/= voting for |
|
I am a life-long Democrat. I was raised a Democrat by a couple of trade unionists. I still am. I would sooner eat a dead dog's genitalia than vote Republican. I have always voted against Republicans and I always will.
That said, there is no guarantee I will vote for the Democrats. Ever since the New Left ditched the trade unionists and the class struggle, both the New Left and labor have had a hard time of it. I support the rights of women, racial minorities, religious minorities, and gender/sexual minorities.
That said, the Democratic Party needs to work on our issues as well. REAL financial reform, socialized medicine, limits on executive compensation, guaranteeing Social Security, pension funds and reigning in military spending. It would be nice if they worked on guaranteeing upward mobility for our children through education and job opportunities, as well as sustainable energy so they can have a future. Period. The Democrats simply haven't done much for my issues to justify voting for them this time around. I certainly won't vote Republican (see above paragraph), but I am seriously thinking about voting Socialist, even though I am not one, technically. I am a New Deal Democrat, and I haven't seen much Roosevelt out of this government. Not voting Democrat =/= voting Republican.

8. If you don't vote and a Republican wins, how would you feel then? |
|
I've been yelling at Obama to mop faster and quit wasting time with the bi-partisan efforts, etc. But slow as he is, he at least wants to help. If you and other should-be Democratic voters don't vote, you might give elections to Republicans. And you know what? That makes me angry. I remember what they did, and I know what they want to do. The Republican utopia of non-union slave labor toiling for the benefit of few super-rich (many of whom will have the last name Bush), who don't pay any taxes, yet get all the benefits . . . that possible future horrifies me.
So, okay, don't vote FOR the Democrats, just vote AGAINST the Republicans. PLEASE!
