I think it is strange that she is famous, attractive such an advocate for heterosexuality and apparently dated and seems to flirt non-stop -- but -- at 41, that is forty-one, folks, is still unmarried.

Mind you, nothing wrong with being single, forty-one, attractive, famous or even an advocate for heterosexuality, and I'm all in favor of flirting -- but to be on top of all that, a conservative woman, and still be single, no. There is an inconsistency there.

As far as I am concerned, her preoccupation with heterosexuality/homosexuality gives her away. Real heterosexuals don't worry about gender preference all THAT much. What do you think?

and I have plenty of gay friends. When you work as an artist in the entertainment industry you'd better be comfortable with the GLBT community or you won't find many people to have lunch with. I could care less who anyone sleeps with or loves...as long as they aren't abusive and cruel. I also have a lot of single women friends over 40, and none of them cares one bit about anyone else's sexual orientation-but then we all love men and sex and don't have hangups about it. Something is seriously wrong with that woman. Maybe there was some trauma somewhere-but I think it's more likely that she's just someone who is very easily lead and has become a "true convert" to the cult of hate that is the tea party.

The fact that Bill Maher of "Religulous" (sp?) is so ignorant about Wicca/witchcraft, or the ignorance and religious intolerance of it in this thread.

Witchcraft isn't about sacrificing animals, being a crackpot, or whatever. It's a genuine religion that even the U.S. government recognizes. The whole "killing animals" bullshit was dreamed up by Christians, to convert people to Christianity.

Wicca is the true religion of peace. One of its first rules is that its adherents NEVER try to convert anyone.

People on DU should be calling this bitch crazy for implying that witches are evil...not calling witchcraft (and, by association, all pagan religions) crazy.

How about we defend pagans, Buddhists, and believers in all (or no) religions as vehemently as we do Muslims? Muslims aren't the only persecuted people, not by a long shot.

You're proving it right now, by implying that the mere mention of witchcraft is what will ruin this Sarah Palin wannabe. Talk about religious intolerance!

ALL ANCIENT RELIGIONS USED ANIMAL SACRIFICE. EVERY DAMN ONE OF THEM. This chi chi rewrite that is being practiced today is NOTHING like the ancient faiths.

You know how to assure fertility for yourself and other good things? You dig a hole in the ground and line it with the white-feathered skin of a swan. Think the swan was a suicide? Then you put in all the objects necessary to bring about your desire. Then you cover up the hole. Archaeologists have been digging these up in England. That's how we know.

Why does it need to be like the ancient faith? Is Catholicism the same as it was 10 centuries ago? As for your swan anecdote, do you suppose the bird was killed just for ritual's sake or was it eaten before assembled in the hole? Is it different to kill animals solely to eat them, or is it the word sacrifice that offends people?


Since Wicca (as we call it now) was systematically wiped out by THE CHURCH, and all of its history and gods/goddess' coopted by THE CHURCH... it's hard to say what the Wise Ones from the pre-Christian era were actually all about.


But modern Wicca as conceived by adherents early in the 20th century IS a peaceful religion. It arguably has very few similarities to the Ancient rites, because nothing was really written down and all the "heretics/pagans" were slaughtered. So i would disagree with you here. Modern Wicca (Druidry as well) is based more on Jungian Archetypes than hard evidence of actual ancient pagan practices. Developing rituals is deeply personal and not set down in "grimoires" or magic books... even the concept of magic is a somewhat newer belief in Wicca.

I think looking up stuff on Wiki is nice, but sometimes it helps to know a little more of the history than a resource page can give. And calling what many people on this board profoundly believe in "chi chi" (?) is actually a little rude... i think... what is chi chi?
