Americans HATE the idea of "Raising the Retirement Age"

Pretty good overview of how all Americans, even Republicans, think raising the retirement age is a terrible idea.

1. My parents both retired at 55. With a govt pension social security was gravy.

2. Sadly, most people nowadays

do not have access to a pension. These are scary times for people approaching retirement who lost value in their homes and 401(k)s.

3. Pops takes home more in his pension than I bring home from my 50 hour a week job.

And he got paid peanuts when he was working. Full medical, with checks from the retirement fund reimbursing him for his Medicare. God I wish I had worked for the government. Private sector jobs suck. Even if they cut the benefits drastically I would still be better off than having no pension and no health benefits.

I wish I had known.

4. Working for the government would be great.

It's crazy how well paid government workers are compared to the paltry private sector salaries.
