1. He left the Southern Baptist Convention because of their misogyny |
|
His statement announcing that decision- http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2009/jul/12/jimmy-carter-womens-rights-equalityHe is a man of earnest faith, whose belief is a restraint on hateful impulses, and not an excuse for indulging hate. Even though I am an atheist, I respect him profoundly, because he is truly honorable.

some of the ONLY friends I have happen to be atheistic or agnostic in nature. I truly respect, generally speaking, the atheist's intellectual honesty regarding conclusions based on their own empirical observations..

Published: October 21, 2000
ATLANTA, Oct. 20— Jimmy Carter, a third-generation Southern Baptist and the first United States president to call himself a born-again Christian, has reached what he calls ''a painful decision'' to sever ties to the Southern Baptist Convention, saying that parts of its ''increasingly rigid'' doctrines violate the ''basic premises of my Christian faith.''
Mr. Carter's decision, announced on Thursday in a letter that is being mailed this week to 75,000 Baptists nationwide, comes four months after the Southern Baptist Convention, the country's largest Protestant denomination, declared its opposition to women as pastors.

catch him on the Daily Show? If not then 2 things jump out - actually they always jump out when I see him: 1. His incredible intelligence - the eyes are the key - always thinking ahead of the curb and 2. His incredible sense of humor/joy - regardless of the situation..

7. No god(s) in myu world |

But Carter might stand in for one if I felt the need. IF there is a supreme entity, I'm betting there's gonna be a WHOLE BUNCH of shocked and awed folks left standing about after any "rapture" that might occur. Said entity would likely elevate minions based on actions rather than words. Heh - imagine all the "good christians" standing about and looking into piles of vacant clothing! LOL!!
