Views on DU: 1096 | Ad for Washington state ballot initiative 1098, which would add an income tax on the top 1.2%, similar to a law recently passed in Oregon.

1. I take umbrage with this ad!!1! |
|
When he is speaking, he is wearing eyeglasses, but at 0:24, he is no longer wearing them. But then they reappear at 0:26!
It's this type of shenanigans that ruins public discourse!!1

3. This is legit -- it's not a trick to help the wealthy. There are a couple of other |
|
bazillion aires here who are supporting it, all with history of philanthropy and doing the right thing.
Those against it are Bezos (Amazon), Ballmer (Microsoft) and Barry Ackerley (big media guy, former Seattle Sonics owner) and they are giving the same old Republican lies -- bad for small business will impact jobs, etc.
We don't have a State income tax here and it sounds as though it's similar to the federal tax that is due to run out.
We in Washington need to vote for this, and give Gates, Sr, Ann Wycoff (of Paccar wealth) big thank yous!
It's truly refreshing to see those people actually want to do what's fair and right.
PS -- Microsoft as a company has said it supports this, at odds with Ballmer's position.

7. I'm not surprised. I wonder if it's an age/wisdom thing since Gates, Sr, and Ann |
|
Pigott (Wycoff) are older (don't know about the other sponsors). Although, I know the Pigotts and Gates families have always been involved with the community and charitable organizations.
The Bezos, Knights and Ackerleys of this world are still go-getters, greedy, want to run the world types. Although, I actually think it has to do more with WHO you are, rather than how OLD you are.
And it's my understanding that this is a PERSONAL income tax, not corporate, so don't know why those greedy fucks are using the "bad for economy" excuse.
