Stephen Colbert testified Friday in front of a House committee, where he described his own experiences after one day of grueling agricultural work.

p.s. The media needs to stop focusing on Colbert's opening statement and start showing America what Colbert said DURING the of question & answer period his testimony.

The media still has NOT learned their lessons from Ballon Boy, O'keefe the fake-pimp, and the Sherrod fiasco!

1. Must say I'm disappointed, as I thought it was a fine idea.
He in fact made it into a joke, including his 'work' segments.

3. Here, let me help you down from your high horse...
He is a COMEDIAN. What did you expect? You know some of the most damning truths are presented as comedy. Its the syrup we swallow with the bitter pill.

6. Gosh, I hope that wasn't sarcasm.
And thank YOU for being so erudite.

2. Fox 'news' did their 'outrage of the week' on this.
I didn't think he was making a joke out of it. I have not seen the whole video, but if this is an example of his testimony, I don't see what the fuss is about.

5. he was making a joke
out of the issue and how it is framed. He was saying we all come from immigrants and the workers are not taking the jobs from anyone.
I must admit it probably went over the heads of the faux deep thinkers though.

10. I saw the rest and did wince a few times.
But overall, knowing now the history of Will Rogers and Elmo testifying before Congress, he did a great job.

7. Does the average citizen know more about migrant workers?
I wasn't impressed with the comedy in that chamber and was heartened that there was some good done as well after viewing this clip.

I have worked in a couple of tough hot jobs as I grew up. (If I indeed did grow up.) Picking pineapple was not a walk in the park. Immigrants are brought to Hawaii for that purpose at this time and are treated better than most migrants across the country. They get decent housing and a decent wage. There is a current story about farmers on O'ahu keeping laborers like slaves to tend their fields, so it happens here as well.

Migrants have always been exploited in any way the powerful can find to exploit them. They deserve dignity. Period.

8. We can think for ourselves
and this was just as scripted as anything else I've seen out of congress lately, except maybe from Kucinich. The difference here is he was making a point for the good of those lesser among us and it was heard loud and clear. Bravo! I could care less how anyone spins it. We need to stop crapping on people we think are beneath us. That makes us look bad ... understandably.
