While I don't doubt it prevents vascular plaque, but that low low fat has also been correlated with an increase in risk for Alzheimers. The issue is not settled, for sure, but that is one explanation for why statin use has been associated with higher risk for Alzheimers.
I thought Dean Ornish's diet was spartan, but this one doesn't allow any fats, nuts, meats, eggs, dairy--not even fat free dairy-- and doesn't even acknowledge a role for fish oil supplements or monosaturated fats. What a cruel irony this will be if, in trying to decrease risk for cardiovascular disease and stroke, we are actually increasing risk for pre-senile dementia and Alzheimers.

2. Clinton did say he did eat nuts |

in the video. I would imagine that any diet that was so restrictive would demand vitamin supplements daily.
Personally, I would love to be able to restrict myself on such a diet. I hate that I eat so much junk food, and I know the difference between healthy and non-healthy, but most of the time, I just don't give a crap. Glad to see Bill C. being more concerned than I am!

4. I wish he had mentioned Pritikin. |

He came before Ornish - granted, he wasn't a doctor, but he was ahead of his time in regard to reversing heart disease through nutrition.
