1. Automatic vs semi-automatic
There is a difference.
Do you have any reason to believe these were automatic?

3. how about the problem of weapons at all at a rally?
If I were a Teabaggin' Repug, I'd be afraid for any blacks in the rally ... because someone probably won't believe that they're the few "conservative Black Republicans", and probably kill them, thereby drastically reducing their "minority" presence at Repub rallies ...

5. Assult Rifle Is The Proper Term
For the weapon in the picture. This is not the first time an assult rifle has been photographed at a Tea Party event.

8. Close, but no cigar.. 'Assault Weapon' most likely.
As per the now-defunct 1994 "Assault Weapons Ban".

'Assault Rifle' usually refers to a full-auto weapon like the M-16.

There is no way to know without physical examination, but the registration required of such full-auto rifles has been closed to civilians since 1986. These rare, civilian-transferable rifles start at $15,000. Hence, likely to be the semi-auto version.

9. Actually, No
Assult weapon is a category of weapons. Assult rifle is a specific weapon that falls within the category of assult weapon. The civilian version of the M-16 is a semi-automatic weapon. Removing the pin (altering) to make them fully automatic is somewhat easy but it is also a felony.

11. Myth
Altering a semi automatic M16 look a like to fire automatically is not easy nor is it simple it requires specialized tooling that (likely) isn't in your tool box Yes, certain firearms can be made to fire repeatedly by filing down X, Y, and Z, but not with any regularity or safety. And a gun that shoots repeatedly when you only intend it to shoot once isn't something that's going to be accurate enough to hit the target before the muzzle decides to try to hit a cloud or the ceiling.

One point that those who promote the lie often fail to understand that if a firearm can be "easily converted" to full auto then the law considers it full auto. There is no gray area there. If a gun can accept a drop-in kit that they never provide a link to, then that gun should already be on the NFRTR.

13. There's no 'pin' to remove to make an AR-15 full auto
Since 1983, the BATFE treats any weapon that is 'easily converted' to full auto as thought it already had been converted.

If you were to file down the disconnector notch on an AR-15 hammer, you'd get what's called a 'hammer follow'- a dangerous condition where the hammer could strike the firing pin before a bolt was locked into the barrel lugs, or even before the round was fully seated in the chamber. If you're lucky, it would only blow up the gun, not your hand / face.

The full auto M16 includes a sear, which insures that the disconnector is not tripped until the bolt is fully in battery.

14. No, all Title 1 civilian guns are required to be difficult to convert, or else they're banned.
Any civilian firearm that is easily converted to full auto is a full auto under Federal law, even if not actually converted, and possession outside of police/military duty without a BATFE Form 4 is a 10-year Federal felony. You cannot convert any civilian Title 1 semiauto into a machinegun by filing a couple of parts or pulling a pin. The relevant statute is 26 USC § 5845(b).

The GOP is so Full of shit..
How people can be fouled by these traders, is beyond me.

Side note: A full size Hummer get about 10 to 11 miles to the gallon... They are the worse if Gas Guzzlers.

12. Not a problem. I'd like to see more Democrats express their right to keep and bear arms, too.

And as others said, they are most likely not automatic weapons, but it makes no difference if they were or were not. As long as they were carried safely and within the bounds of the law.
