Once upon a time, I thought they were from my mom's generation, which would have been around the time of June Cleaver. The blissfully ideal life of a middle-class housewife. Wearing a dress, preparing dinner, wearing pearls....it was people like my mom and dad, from a lower class, that worked two jobs, or more, and pearls and dresses were an impossibility.

Then, on the other hand, there was Babs Bush, the worst human scum in the world, except for all of the relatives, of course. Now I look at pearls as the epitome of conservatism. That way, we free up all the other gems for the rest of us.
