The Hawaii Superferry is threatening the islands of Hawaii. Greater traffic congestion, drugs and the conservation of the oceanic environment are just a few of the concerns that the people of Hawaii have with the arrival of the Superferry.

1. I'm Sorry, I Don't Get The Big Deal About The Ferry
Why isn't anybody protesting the cruise ships and moter boats? If I lived in Hawaii, I would welcome another method to get from Island to Island. I understand they bypassed the study and that shouldn't have happened but I am really bewildered by the uproar. How will this contribute to crime?

3. Here is the short of it...
Cruise ships have been sucessfully boycotted on Molokai. They did not have enough bathrooms to handle 1600 prople who have to piss!

An EIS has never been done!
Invasive species is a MAJOR issue here on Maui and the other islands. Cars and trucks will bring them from Oahu
Oahu has 80% of Hawaii's population and over 90% of the crime here. We dont want to import criminals to have a joy ride here to steal and slip back to Oahu.
Whales will be struck by this ultra fast ship.
Our roads and police can not handle all the extra cars dumped on our roads all at once.
did I mention Invasive species ? We have more endangerd species here than all of the mainland put together!

21. Oh my fucking god..."the criminals will come!" Now I know your post is bullshit...
It's about time they had the ferry - they have ships plying the seas around the islands alread...

More of the same idiots who defeated the spaceport proposal that would have brought JOBS to Hawaii...

Good fucking god...

You're from...Nevada?

Anyway, UH Manoa is the only university that can launch satellites. Charging 20 million, paying 3 million, the balance going to our physics department. Cool. I guess something good finally came from the missile launching facility we protested but got stuck with anyway. 'Ike i ke 'one kani a'o Nohili...

24. I guess you just want to bring Hawaii down to your level
The "whats good for me, is good for you" attitude from those from the mainland pollutes our inlands and heritage.

Jobs is NOT a justification to running our lifestyle no mater how simple you think it is. We don't need that and we don't have to accept it just because we are "Americans"

century technology needs to be used to protect them, not further endanger them.

The stupidferry is (was) a giant tax scam pushed through to move the Strykers interisland, and we have major problems with that. Those things are built for intercity warfare. The darker spookier possibilities are among the many reasons to be against it. It was argued it would provide cheap interisland transport for people- it doesn't, it'll be way more costly than flying. Aloha and Hawaiian lost over 82 million dollars last year, because of Go airlines largely. They are already on the ropes so it's a good thing the Ferry will be so much more money than they sold it with.

It's no big deal to catch a 50$ flight.

I don't really get the crime thing either, the bad guys could catch a plane and rent a car.

But mostly, this was shoved down our throats and we don't want it. And I live on O'ahu.

Thanks for asking! Hana hou...

17. Remember that speech Kerry gave when he gave up?
And everyone knew we'd all just been grossly harmed? This is like if at that moment John Edwards said, "And we are going to fight this until the end."
Or if the voters who got cheated in Ohio stood up and occupied the capitol.
The people are saying NO after getting cheated on process.

2. guess Hawaiians enjoy being at the mercy of
the airline magnets who screw them. Ever try to book a flight between Maui and Molokai from the islands. It's cheaper to fly to LA to shop; even tho one can see across the channel. Almost could swim it, but the current really rips thru that pass.

4. You have to live here to understand...
We dont want to be like Oahu. We sometimes wish they would just leave us alone. WE on Maui didnt ask for the Ferry... big money politics in Oahu wanted it.

13. So, so proud of Kaua'i! Outstanding work, chokes me up.
We don't want it either Sush, its junk, and we are stuck with the bond WHEN they fail. Since they started talking about it my whole family was wondering what about when they hit the channel. Going need one big hose, is all I can say.

Imua Kaua'i, ku-e.

(Hadn't thought about the crime aspect, but it's not like its so spooky here, I'd worry more about criminals from Pahoa, but they're too stoned to catch the ferry. Plus expensive.)

I've been to Hawaii. It's about time that the environment is taken into consideration there. The super ferry is an abomination.

:applause:-for the surfers.

There is a lot of resistance to the Superferry.

The environmental impact of this is enormous.

It's just not worth it.

Quality of life needs to come before the almighty dollar.

My favorite photo:

I just hope the State doesn't end up getting sued for finally making them file the damned EIS. I remember the day the news came out they didn't have to file, I couldn't believe it.

Anyway...Uncle Linda is really p-o'd.

20. The Superferry and Maui Crime.
(I wrote this at the beginning of 2007 and it was printed in the Maui News)

The Superferry and Maui Crime

I am amazed by how many people have yet to see the obvious critical impact the proposed super ferry will have to all of Maui. A significantly increased crime rate.

Let imagine for a minute the following conversation between a small gang of Oahu criminals.

“Hey Bro, I need a need a new Car and I need some change too. Let’s get on da Ferry and go to Maui for some Fun”

So now we have 4 hoods in their old Toyota cruising Maui’s quiet neighborhoods in search of some easy pickings. The steal a new SUV in Wailuku Heights, hit a couple of houses for some jewelry, abandon the old junker in a cane field, sell some ice in Paia and then hit a home in Kahului on their way back to the dock and Oahu. Before a police report can be filed they are back in Honolulu. Not a bad haul for a few hours of work and a few dollars for a ferry ticket!

Sound like a fantasy? Well it’s NOT if we allow the Superferry to touch Maui’s shore. EXPECT crime to escalate and impact everyone on the valley isle.

So let’s summarize what this Superferry will really bring:
• Escalated Drug trafficking
• Influx of organized and petty Criminals from Oahu
• Increased Burglary of your Homes
• Increased crimes against Tourists and the Tourist Industry
• Increased Theft in Retail stores
• Imported Oahu Gangs on our streets and the turf war that will ensue
• Stolen Maui Cars and Trucks “exported” to Oahu
• Taxpayers and not the Superferry will have to pay for Increased Law Enforcement

Do you want Maui to become another Oahu? Then let the Superferry do its work importing criminals!
