4. The story won't go farther than the DMN's inside fold.

I'm a supporter of Bill White - I have his sign in my yard and we have given his campaign more than we can afford to give. But he's not going to win. Not this time. Perry is going to beat him.

Rick Perry can break the law all he wants, and there will be no investigation, no charges, not even a slap on the wrist. He has too many friends in high places - friends he appointed to the high places they now hold. The people who vote for him don't give a shit. They don't care when he trots around Asia, selling US manufacturing jobs overseas while the CEO's in their corporate offices in Texas slide him a tithe of their profits. They don't care if he steers $16 million in grant funding to his friends. They don't care if he uses State funds to run his campaign. They don't care if he's spending 10 large a month renting a friend's mansion while he cuts funding to restore the governor's mansion. He isn't a liberal, and he hates Obama, and that's good enough for Bubba.


This story, and the one about the grant funding will just bolster his support amongst the mouth-breathers. In their eyes, He's keeping the liberals outta his bid'ness, and he's helping those Texas companies keep jobs in Texas (except when they outsource manufacturing to China...)

5. I hope you are wrong

And I think you might be. I've been canvassing in my 78% straight Republican ticket county, and fully half of the voters have told us they are sick of Perry and said they will vote for White, especially teachers. And of that half, we passed out yard signs to half of them. UNHDEARD of in this county in my 10 years of activism.

Perry really pissed off some hard core Republicans in the Bush Country counties by suggesting that the state would take their land by eminent domain for the TransTexas Corridor. Those folks shut him down, and they haven't forgotten.

Our Dem party here has grown from about eight activists when I started to well over 200 now.

You are right about the mouth-breathers, and I've come across some of them, but I don't waste my time on them.

I hope you will join the campaign not only with your money, but with your more valuable time to phone bank and canvass. That makes a huge difference.
