This video explains how the Velib bike rentals work. Back in July the city of Paris, France established bike stands all over the city stocked with sturdy 3 speed bikes which could be rented with a credit card. The idea was to cut down on auto use by encouraging a greater use of bicycles for short trips in the city. So far the project seems to be meeting with success, and the video includes a couple of interviews with some satisfied customers. Just as an FYI, found the link to this video at www.theoildrum.com

1. UWF has a "yellow bike" project

The University of West Florida had a story on their site about their yellow bikes, used by students to ride around campus. They're used, then left for the next person. There's no charge to use them.


Sounds like a good idea. I think it's used on several campuses around the country.
