It's 'funny' because it's true.

11. China: Wave of suicides at Foxconn’s Shenzhen plant: alienating work
So far this year, 11 Foxconn employees have attempted suicide. Two failed. Yesterday’s successful suicide came just three days after a 21-year-old man tried the same.

The high number of suicides has set off alarm bells and attracted the interest of the public. Company officials responded to the situation by saying that working conditions in Longhua are the same in all of the company’s plants, which are long hours, de facto compulsory overtime during peak production periods, few opportunities for leisure activities, life in dormitories and eating at the cafeteria to save money. Unpleasant it may be, but no more alienating than in any other Chinese plant.

Beijing has reacted expressing concern over the situation—it urged the Taiwan-based company to monitor working conditions.

Some workers told the South China Morning Post that they are forced to work very long shifts under a military-style discipline.

A 21-year woman from Guangxi said she has to work from 8 am to 8 pm, six days a week. She has to rise at 6.30 am, walk for an hour from the dormitory to the plant “because there is no shuttle bus”.

“The atmosphere inside our workplaces is so tight and depressing that we're not allowed to speak to each other for 12 hours or you'll be reproached by supervisors. You'll only be given 30 minutes for lunch and are not allowed to use toilets for more than 10 minutes,” she said.

15. I saw this last night, it actually was broadcast.
Good for Groening! And not just Groening, numerous people had to have known about this and gone along with it.

It's amazing to me that they got it on the air. I guess it's nothing that the censors would flag but you'd think that Fox would have someone look at these things before they go on the air. I wonder if it was secretly substituted for some other opening right before it aired?

I wonder if that opening will ever be broadcast again. I wonder if anything Groening's involved with will ever be aired by Fox without a high level screening first.

the show on VHS. I'd play it again after it was over, so I could pause it just to see all the gags that were going by to fast to notice. There was some kind of joke in almost every frame.

23. And what's FOX gonna do about it? Not a damn thing...
The Simpsons made FOX. Without them and maybe Married...With Children, the network would've folded.

It's still one of their highest rated shows and certainly most recognizable.

40. Remember
The SImpsons Is able to take potshots at Fox because when it started James L Brooks was able to get In writing that the network
can not give them notes. They have taken potshots at Fox over the years and even at Murdock himself. As long as the Simpsons makes
money for them this will continue. The flewed Nielson ratings also show The Simpsons still has legs after almost 21 years.

It's definitely a keeper.

For those interested in the actual episode plot, it's pretty good too.

Lisa meets her elementary school's greatest student in school history, who went to Yale, and came back for a visit. She told Lisa that she needs a lot of extracurricular activities. They showed where this super-student was involved in something along the lines of 50 extracurricular activities in elementary school, besides having a 4.0 GPA.

So, Lisa volunteers to become Bart's Little League baseball team's manager, after some arguing with Bart.

She becomes a little too dictatorial and militaristic herself as she guides them to the Little League World Series Championship. She essentially took the fun out of baseball, crunching it down to nothing but nerdy statistical probabilities and put the players through a boot camp type atmosphere.
