3. Now that they're arguing, they need your support. Hmmm.
Has anyone else noticed that you're just a profit center until the big boys start arguing over whether their going to be making appalling profits rather than obscene profits?

Then we, the little fellah who just wants to pay for a service, is the salt of the earth and the most important person in the world to them.

Well, until arbitration goes through.

Then, it's going to go right back to "pay up, Mac".

Never a better time to quit regular television watching. We get our programs over-the-air and I'm pretty sure we wouldn't be any more happy if we were paying a monthly bill for it. When "the cable" first started going into homes, did you notice that the primary draw was no commercial breaks? There was a time when AMC didn't have commercials! Now, unless it's one of the big premium movie services, you get as many commercials crammed down your gullet as broadcast.

Doesn't seem a fair deal to me.

Your money's better spent on art supplies than a pay TV bill.

More! Since they flash commercials and logos all over the bottom of the screen during shows. Forget it if it's a subtitled movie. I remember being in a hotel on a rainy Sunday watching a James Bond marathon, and this babe kept swooping in on a rope. It was an ad for some show coming up the next week.... but you couldn't tell...half the time you were thinking:" is this some Bond girl coming to assassinate somebody?... oh wait... it's a friggin ad!"

I mainly just use my TV as a monitor for my DVD player. Just watched all of the miniseries "Traffik" again.

This is over the Fox broadcast stations. Fox News is a cable channel and is part of a separate contract.

It’s the local news for the NYC/Metro Area.

Very watchable.

And moments like this happen:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ss8LDBNcsWc&feature=related

Could care less about MY9.

And dont think for a minute Cablevision is the victim here. They pulled the same exact shit on Dish Network over the MSG channels.

32. I wonder where the cable industry would be today had they not utilized
the socialist infrastructure (roads, telephone poles, etc.) that the government (ma bell, WPA, etc.) had put into place before?

(Oh, and don't forget, NASA launching their satellites and maintaining safe distances of stuff floating around up there ...)

that he purchased and send Murdoch's ugly ass back to Downunder...after we extort a huge fine for the inconvenience.

All I watch on Fox is 'Glee' but I can get it on line....so I guess he's just punishing people who can't afford a computer and internet service.

Amazing....from $70 million to $150 million. Shit.

13. Same situation going on with DishNetwork
We dropped Direct TV because they were just another conservative arm and went with Dish. We've been with them for YEARs and we're happy. Today before the Bear's game they said that in addition to Fox Channel movies, the local Fox channels may be dropped. Damn. Looks like we're going to have to get a box and an areal antenna.

25. Yea, Cablevision isn’t so innocent here either.
CABLEVISION wanted a rate hike for Dish to continue to carry two of their channels, MSG and MSG+, two sports channels here in NY that carry the Islanders, Rangers, Devils, and Knicks games,

Dish said “fuck off”, and Cablevision pulled them. So now, since I have Dish, I can’t watch any of mah sports. GAY.

Switching to iO, promptly.

to send the amount they spend monthly (on cable and satellite) to PBS. But everyone's SO addickted to their stupid sports and dunce-vision dramas that smarts don't have a chance.

This dust-up is just the beginning of Murdick and Co. blatantly bilking the minions for funds to buy our government with.

tv/movies/theater has value.(It has throughout history) I agree most of it is shit. Even the so-called "educational" stuff. But there are a few choice shows that have excellent character and plot development. So I don't generalize. And I definitely need my sports. But don't assume that becasue someone watches a bit of tv that they are dull minded zombies. I think I have enough control not to become a tvpodperson.

24. PBS? I know they went Republican at the same time as NPR. Remember
Edited on Sun Oct-17-10 03:52 PM by peacetalksforall
Jesse Helms leading the way - Dan Burton right behind him and used as a key spokesperson along with many others including Strom Thurmond - they demanded that the government not pay anymore to support them because who knows - they were too liberal or something. Whatever they did worked.

NPR - who I always regarded as neutral went virally Republican and Baron in all their news slant and their news tlakers and positions. I can't bear to listen them the news and yet I adore their weekend programs, This American Life, Prairie Home Companion, Krista Tippett, American Routes, etc. It's like having a gun pointed at you with nice music in the background. The Republicans and the Barons won - PBS and NPR - twpo more outlets - the march to 1984.

It's the only radio outlet I listen to - and listen to alot. I don't feel any conservative overtones at all. What I do hear is the only programs on the dial for folks with a brain. And locally, the only outlet for classical music and programs about theater and jazz.

Edited on Sun Oct-17-10 09:55 PM by peacetalksforall
They repulse me at times. It's sprinkled throughout everything that has something to do with news. I want to run to my computer to document what I heard and usually I'm driving. By the time I get to the computer, I can't quite remember all the context and how it was slipped in. Then there are the various blunt ones - Juan Williams, Neil Cohen, Myra Liason (I never can remember hte spelling - and I loathe looking it up). Plus others. There snide remarks about Obama are really hard to take.

19. Murdoch is 79. I wonder if the feeding frenzy for his assets and for
control of Fox News post-Murdoch is already beginning.

I wonder also how the sports teams feel about the reduction in the number of viewers watching them on cable TV. Fox could find itself facing competition from other sports networks for transmission of some of its biggest, most popular shows if it continues to be so greedy.

Of course, Fox wants to start charging per view on the internet for its programming. I for one will not be paying.

31. THE CORPORATION [17/23] Unsettling Accounts
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZkDikRLQrw

Journalists Jane Akre and Steve Wilson were fired by the Fox News television station they work for after refusing to change their investigative report on Posilac, a Bovine Growth Hormone (BGH) made by Monsanto. Their research documents potential health and safety problems of drinking milk treated with the synthetic hormone, but threatened with legal action from Monsanto, Fox wants the negative effects played down. The court eventually throws out Akre's whistle blower lawsuit after deciding that the media is allowed to lie.

We all know what a bastard Rupert can be, let's face it. Obviously their viewers are last on the priority list since they shut the signal down (not CV). Doing this during the playoffs was low enough, my friend who is CV subscribers can't even view past episodes on the FOX website, it redirects to FOX's anti-cablevision site. A bit obvious?
