Cenk Uygur (host of The Young Turks) filling in for Keith Olbermann on MSNBC's Countdown speaks with Senior adviser to president Barack Obama David Axelrod who believes negotiations with Republicans may be possible after the midterm elections.

1. Cenk gets the basic facts wrong again.
A few Republicans did vote for most of Obama's top agenda items like financial regulation. He even went back with a second question that shows he still can't process the reality of what happened. This interview was like listening to a university professor educating a grade schooler.

And what a load of shit for Cenk to complain that Obama isn't getting his message out. Gosh, what could Cenk have done to help get that message out? Maybe something besides distorting the record and constantly complaining?

3. Remind me again: are Democrats going to win or lose Congressional seats this year?
Edited on Wed Oct-20-10 01:03 PM by jgraz
"Professor" Axelrod may want to take another look at how he's getting the message out.

11. Really?
Gotta say, one thing I've never been is confused about any of R.A.'s posts.

12. I like it when progressive legislation passes Congress.
Maybe Cenk doesn't.

15. We're still waiting for "Progressive legislation" to pass
in the corporate funded Congress...

Ain't seen much yet...

18. That we are, especially in the Senate...
That's where anything that the president supports goes to die... ;(

But, same thing happens with Thom Hartmann's videos. So, Cenk is in good company.

4. Axelrod's answers were pretty lame
He attributed everything to their fruitless kissing of GOP ass for zero votes. Negotiations with the republicans are not possible after the midterms, or ever. Wake up and acknowledge the 800 lb guerrilla in the room.

5. The worst part: he thinks two GOP votes is significantly different from ZERO GOP votes
Cenk has it essentially right -- Axelrod and his boss are leading the Democrats to an electoral catastrophe.

14. Agreed. I wish Cenk hadn't stated incorrect info--the point would have been made without the need
for corrections, but did Axelrod need to make the snide comment (paraphrasing) "if only everyone watched your show, Cenk, they'd have the facts."

20. That's what it sounded like to me.
Just barely veiled enough to avoid a tussle on DU. Looks like Cenk does indeed make the "professional left" list. Seems to me that this means the White House is listening to TYT.

6. "What we won't do is compromise fundamental principles."
LOL.

Was David Axelrod thinking that when he said “After the deals with insurance companies, the deals with Pharma — all these people are supposedly our friends.”

propping up the status-quo in the Corporate States of America...

You're 100% correct, Mr. Axelrod...

It's my contention that the insurance companies and Big PhRMA were meeting with the Obamites BEFORE they even got near the White House -- the deal was in long before the health care "debate"...

The first concrete example of many that the Obamites are dancing with them (the corporate forces) that brung 'em...

10. Cenk asked great questions...
Continued to press...

And Axelrod, like a good little corporate tool, just ignored the questions.

Not much difference in style between him and Joe Miller/Christine O'Donnell...

19. Axelrod actually makes one interesting point here
that Bush made sure everyone knew about his handouts because he actually sent them a check. Reminds me of an episode of Futurama where Nixon gets a surplus by conquering and robbing some peaceful aliens and gives everyone a $300 bill with his face on it.

But he was unfortunately able to make what I think is a false association, the idea that the health care reform bill they passed couldn't have been passed without concessions and sucking up to the right. I don't even think that's true.
