1. Yeah, because churches build roads and fund police and fire departments.
I'm so sick of the idiotic notion people have that 99.97% of all government spending goes to social services for the poor.

7. I'd rather pay taxes than donate to churches ...
because my taxes help fund the universal health care that all Canadians depend on, as well as roads, schools, fire stations, police, etc.

2. No Deary... Churches need to pay taxes so Christians can live comfortably.

And all other citizens too....you jackass.

Christians are more generous than everybody else? Prove it.

Christians are more generous to other Christians, maybe.

3. Some really do think this way.
Many years ago, I worked for a small construction company owned by two "born again" evangelical types. They were in trouble with the IRS and the state because they had not been sending in taxes withheld from payroll -- which I learned after I was hired to replace the previous office manager/bookkeeper.

To make a long story short, they tried to argue that there should be no penalties because "we donated all that money to our church, which helps to spread the Word of God."

I remember one lawyer saying, "Well, that's very nice of you, I'm sure, but you still have to pay the withholding taxes for your employees first." It was all I could do to not laugh out loud.

Oh, yeah... and they were in trouble for taking construction shortcuts, too, discovered when certain projects failed to pass building inspections. I guess their church donations were supposed to negate that, as well.

I left not long after to take a sane job -- reminding myself to never again trust people who wear their religion like a neon sign and think their "holiness" places them above the law and other people.

4. Sorry, Harry. 30 years ago we heard that the rich needed tax cuts...
...so they could give more to their country by investing in jobs and industries in America.

It was a lie then, and proven to be so, and you're lying now...

But I will give you all credit: you managed to talk for this whole time without bursting out laughing!

6. Those golden crosses don't grow on trees!!!
My wife and I used to donate to the church she grew up in as a kid. It made her feel good.

But then her childhood church began the remodeling. They added Karaoke style screens so that the people could sing the hymns.

And then we learned that our donations were being counted as donations from "Christian Conservatives" ...

Since then, we've redirected our charitable gifts to non-religious targets.

I hate the idea that these insane right wing ass-hats have used my charitable gifts to support their insane ideology.

These jerk-offs want to be able to donate a $10k new gold cross and write it off on taxes as if they helped some one.

They are deranged.
