2. Listen to her again: she was for a small pilot program, but she feels that most retirees do not want |
|
to be responsible for investing thier social security. She's too conservative for me on national security but she definately said she was not for privatization of SSI. I think if someone wants to invest thier SSI, so be it. But there will no bailout if it doesn't work out. I know a lot of people who were allowed to opt out of SSI if they had a pension. It worked out for my wife after thirty years with the CIA, but it sure didn't work out for a lot of people I know, like my FOL who worked for Wilson for 30 years and after three or four changes in ownership gets a fraction, a small fraction of what he vested into his pension and will lose his health insurance if he buys into a medicare suppliment program. Shes right. And she said: after the bank bailout she changed her whole opinion regarding privatized SSI.

5. Yes, the point is that that is what she SAYS |
|
"I was only voting to allow a portion of people to put a portion of their SS in the stock market."
Uh huh.

6. In a pilot program and only before the Wall street meltdown after which she totalty |
|
changed her mind. At least mention the complete set of circumstances. She decided that privatizing SSI was a bad idea. One of the few who were for it to publicaly announce it was a bad idea.

7. Now that she's running against someone from the left |
|
Don't get me wrong - I totally welcome her remarks _now_ on SS. I found her to be totally reasonable and even commendable in the way she presented the issue in this interview.
But even a pilot program set up as she described it weakens SS. She should have been able to figure out that Wall Street has crashes (and thieves) and what do you do with people who have lost that money in that case BEFORE the crash. Glad she has figured it out now - the rest of us knew it was stupid while she was voting for it.

8. And as a GOP myself, I am so glad SSI will be around and unprivatized. |

I am glad that there is moderation in at least some radical speech. Frankly Harry Reid is not a great Senator, but Angle would be an umitigated disaster. I would gladly vote for Reid in this case. I would gladly vote for Jerry Brown. I would gladly vote against O'Donnell, Paladrino, Miller, Rand Paul without knowing much about thier opponents. I voted for President Obama, but I would vote against Pallin and I hope she runs if the GOP can't get its act together. I like Grayson and I think the Senator that took Wellstones seat in Wisconsin is Presidential enough for me to vote for him if the GOP had a teabagger or someone like Imhofe or McConnell or Gringrich running against him after Obama's second term.
I think sometimes candidates will moderate themselves running against a popular moderate.
I am sad that there are few maybe only one or two GOP possibles I could vote for. Maybe Shelby with a few reservations. It'll be years before there will be any viable GOP Presidential candidates. Maybe we might get the GOP back from all these extremists, neocons, teabaggers and so-called-conservative slimebags. But it will take years. At least one or two election cycles.
