Senate Bill 362 "would prohibit a person from requiring, coercing, or compelling any other individual to undergo the subcutaneous implanting of an identification device," and a similar version has already passed the state Assembly. Joseph Simitian, who came up with the idea, laments the fact that the RFID industry does not appear to find his idea a good one.

"I think it's unfortunate and regrettable that the industry hasn't come out in support of SB 362," he said in a statement after the bill passed the Senate. "I understand why we're having a robust debate about the privacy concerns related to RFID, but at the very least, we should be able to agree that the forced implanting of under-the-skin technology into human beings is just plain wrong. I'm deeply concerned that this isn't a given for the industry."

If the bill is signed into law, it would not actually be the first time such a law has been enacted. Both Wisconsin and North Dakota already have similar laws on the books (one wonders if those bills also define "subcutaneous," a word which would seem to define itself).

The U.S. Army has considered implanted RFID chips to forever end the anguish of Unknown Soldiers.

3. I don't see this as a bad thing as long as only Police/Firefighter/Ambulance services have access to
the information. But then, we've already seen how corporations will sell out our info for profit. So yes, unless there's severe changes, this sucks.

"I don't see this as a bad thing as long as only Police/Firefighter/Ambulance services have access to" part.

Not that I'm particularly illiterate, but from what I understand, in many states, the Police/Firefighter/Ambulance services turn over your information on demand to whichever authority agencies are empowered to request it.

RFID need sto be resisted. Unless we are talking about file folders.

14. But again, like I said, unless there's severe changes made
such as the agengy sharing that you listed, this can't be a good thing. I'm on your side on this matter. I don't believe that in current conditions this can be a good thing, that's why I stressed the need for change.

7. You Don't want a Police Force to have access to your chip
especially one who doesn't follow the Constitution Bill of Rights and is getting yelled at my judges for illegal imprisonment and wiretapping...

Plus how do you know what they are implanting???

Making it mandatory for soldiers is very scary
stick to dog tags

I do believe it can be useful, missing kids for example.

12. The only CA State Senators who voted "Nay"...
...were Rethugs.

http://www.calitics.com/showDiary.do?diaryId=3670

This should be hung around the neck of every single Rethug up for re-election in 2008 in CA, along with the budget roadblock. And particularly Evangelical Christians should be made aware of this vote. We missed the chance to hang the FDA approval of subcutaneous chipping of human beings around Bush's neck in 2004. We should not miss this opportunity.

17. Is there a way to detect RFID chips available to anyone? How would you know?
Would a person with an implanted RFID chip always know about it?
