Last night on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Fred Thompson delivered GOP talking points on the correctness of invading Iraq and fearing Iran to a DEAD SILENT audience for *five minutes*.

Notice the lack of applause, clapping or hoots as he serves up plenty of stale Republican raw meat on the Middle East.

1. Perhaps even republican voters are tiring of hearing their
same BS talking points...

I guess that is why the video hasn't worthy of any votes so far? :(

2. The man is dead in the water!
Pitiful performance - it was great to see him talking the bush speak. They, the bushies, continue to talk about how dreadful Saddam was and yet it is clear for all to see that Saddam was a buffer against Iran. This was true about 30 years ago and would still be true if we hadn't removed the buffer. Again, there are a lot of bad guys out there, Saddam was one, but, not the biggest bad guy when it came to terrorism. He was the easiest, he had no real army or air power, Iran does. The BS continues, doesn't seem like many Americans are buying their product this time.

I doubt Iowans were impressed with his Leno appearance rather than a debate with the real candidates in a primary State. Talk about smoozing the Hollywood types!

4. So much for Mary Matalin's glowing praise of Fred skipping the debate
also-does he move his arms? He not only looked sullen and ill he looked like he had had a stroke, seriously.

6. That does make me wonder.
There had to have been gop members in the audience. Were they not happy with his retoric and obvious republicon values? Even he semi admitted Sadam had nothing to do with 9-11 or Al Qeada(forgive spelling if wrong) by not saying it, but he had oil reserves and so does Iran. Not one single mention of getting Osama or Al Qeada. He mentions the terrorist threat in the US is only seeking nuclear? They could easily have come up with better than this hogwash as the terrorists are just interested in nuclear, but the killing of the great satan in any way. Though I'm sure they'd consider nuclear ideal in their goals, it is assinine to think that they would do nothing to us with the likes of trains, planes, buses, etc. That can easilly be done in our country as we've not any real protections from them and the republicons know it so the use of fear is typical of these assholes. Terrorists don't need sophisticated weapons to achieve their goals and it is only a matter of time before another attack happens here in the US and the republicon political party is not really protecting anything except their own interests with pure bullshit and lies to the American people while slowly stripping us of our rights in order to secure power for themselves over the people.
We have to rid ourselves of the terrorists that has seized our government.

9. Only the most right-wing authoritarians are buying these assumptions
presented nonchalantly as the "truth." The rest of us were burned once by the Republican lies. If F*T and the rest of the Republicans want us to believe all their national security this and national security that and nuclear weapons here and nuclear weapons there stuff, they had better present some real hard evidence. And they had better open up the government to congressional scrutiny. Nobody is impressed by their statements. They have sold us fairy tales before.

I've talked to quite a few Republicans who fell the same way. And Republicans don't trust Bush on his immigration policy. Deep down, they are concerned about the same wage issues that we are. They just use different language to talk about it. Ordinary Republicans' incomes have gone down in real value just like ours have. Everybody, Republicans and Democrats alike, know that the Iraq War is costing us a lot in many respects, from human lives to dollars to our international reputation, and none of us like it.

Even war supporters have to explain their support by saying, "Well, it could be worse." That rationalization balanced against the enormous cost of the war in all areas just does not justify continuing. F*T's good ole boy stance just does not cover up for the fact that he doesn't really know what he is talking about.

Question: If he doesn't have security clearance any more, how can he be so sure that what he is saying about Iraq and Iran is true? Is this stuff he learned from watching Fox News? Where is this old con-man coming from?

11. They don't hate us because we're rich and powerful...

This schmuck is so unbelievably banal it's nauseating. There he goes, spouting off the same tired, "They hate us because... our freedom/we're rich/we're powerful/we wipe with our right hands... whatever."

Most countries despise us because we have taken no issue whatsoever in interfering with their politics and their economies for our own benefit. Do you think Chileans hate Americans because of our wealth, or because we had their democratically elected leader assassinated and replaced with a murderous maniac? Do Iranians hate us because of our freedom, or because we supported their oppressive Shah financially and militarily? As much as Thompson would loathe to admit it, most of the American blood shed for "other countries" wasn't shed for other countries at all. Most of the time this blood was shed to protect American interests, like the Panama Canal, or to maintain a balance of power during the Cold War, like in Vietnam.

Every decision that was made during the Cold War has come back to bite us now. Every dictator we supported, every election we rigged, every kill squad we trained, every leader we assassinated, are all perfectly sound reasons for the world to distrust our intentions, and all are dutifully ignored by our leaders and the general populace.

12. Wow....
That speech was so dry...so dry...it was painful.

It is hilarious to see that people are wise to what is going on...even republicans.

Thanks. I've had it ever since Katrina and update it when needed.

Unfortunately, the magically appearing/disappearing sigs are elusive. :)

he has NO CHARISMA, he's a terrible speaker, and he is a Cheney neocon. He looks old too. There is no way he will win the presidency. The man like a slightly better looking Dick Cheney who is worse at articulation. There is no way he will win.
