Watch as the hosts of the show try to steer the discussion to how ridiculous it would be if citizens started thinking for themselves.

The priest they are interviewing makes several incredibly naive statements about evolution, indicating that he has never really thought or read seriously concerning this topic. He's like a child taking his first steps. The old canard about the eye, for example, is really a terrible, and terribly old, argument, long ago dealt with.

1. Waitaminute waitaminute waitaminute
FOX has friends?

The funny thing is that the Catholic Church endorses evolution. They have nothing (modernly) to do with the idiocy that is creationism.

2. That's an excellent point, and the Vatican deserves a lot of credit
on their relatively enlightened stance on science. This guy didn't get the message, apparently.

4. Believe it or not the Church can have a "wide tent"
But right when it seemed they were getting modern (Vatican 2) they started to push out "Cafeteria Catholics" like I used to be. I've always thought that they were trying to appease the old farts, but now it just feels like they're trying to compete with the fundies.

Oh well. Shant be going back anytime soon.

5. Probably one of the "orthodox/fundie" types heard on Relavant radio - the
conservative Catholic radio network.

3. What did that last question...
...(on the "Driving 10 Commandments") have to do with Atheism?

6. More Atheists should Speak Up

Fux News prefers ignorance of scientific methods and its proponents. Science is a corrosive to religion since it demands verifiability instead of blind trust. It is much easier to control others under the perception of a higher authority.

As a former christian, it was a very rude awakening when I realized the evidence behind my judeo-christian god (among other mythical entities) was no stronger than the story of Thor, Zeus, or Santa.

Religion is B.S. and I hope more followers find the guts to re-examine their own religious history, institutions, and teachings. Remember, according to their "leaders", it is blasphemy to question the credentials of their prophets (or profits), holy book, and magical powers.

There is a good reason why they do not want their followers to question. Questions are the path to answers... factual answers will eventually lead to knowledge & truth.

9. We are speaking up and in record numbers. :)
I've stopped trying to hide the fact I'm an atheist and I've suffered because of it.

Come out of the closet, fellow heathens. At the very least I can say it's interesting out here.

7. One of the oldest ideas was that if you can't explain something there must be a god who did it.
The eye is so spectacular so therefore there must be a god. I'm not buying it. I believe in a higher power but I can't explain what it is but at least I am willing to say I don't know.

8. They "suffer that they don't believe"? What the hell does that have to do with reality?
Sometimes the truth hurts and fantasy feels good. That has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not it is true.

I remember my Christian grandmother trying to debate me into believing and she said "all you have to do is believe." I told her that believing was the hardest thing I would have to do. In response I said "what if I told you that in order to get into heaven all you had to do is believe the earth is flat, but that if you didn't believe the earth was flat you would go to hell--would that enable you to believe"?

I'm not sure that one actually chooses to belive or disbelieve. You either believe or you don't, and if your rational mind is telling you "x" is true and not "y" I'm not sure you can ever go back and recapture the old belief, at least I know I won't be able to--not even when I am staring death in the face and am terrified.
