Bill Maher planning a documentary on the ridiculousness of religion |
|
Sounds interesting. If there is something that needs a little poking fun at, it is religious beliefs.

1. I love Bill. His political observations are usually spot on, and I think |
|
he is one of the most important voices in the media. Unforunately, he doesn't just "poke fun" at religious beliefs. He seems to have a crusade for atheism. Often it leads to moments on his show where you can see his guests want to get on another subject, but this is the one area he can't let go of. In a weird way, he is an extremist in this matter like the neocons are, just the other way.

2. Extremism in the defense of making rational decisions is no vice |
|
that's just my opinion, though.

4. I agree, calling out the dangerous absurdity and hypocracy that |
|
has spawned so much of the neocons decision making is exceedingly important. I still get uncomfortable when I feel like Bill is "pontificating" atheism. I just feel like he goes too far sometimes. I wouldn't censor him for all the world, and I'm sure I'll watch the documentary, but I get much more from his political commentary.

5. Nobody "crusades for atheism" |
|
although I'm sure it seems that way to thin skinned religionists who can't stand to see their sacred cows ridiculed.
A lot of people are terribly uncomfortable with sacred cow skewerings, even if they don't own that particular sacred cow. They do try to change the subject ASAP.
Atheism aint for everybody. Some people need to believe. Some of us can't manage to believe. Unfortunately, the pressure to believe is constant and pervasive, even as it remains futile. Maher will remain a breath of fresh air as long as he breathes logic into an illogical debate.

12. It is very easy to simply turn the TV off if you don't agree with him. |
|
I don't like preachers on TV, so I avoid the Christian Channels. If you don't agree with Bill's atheists view, then don't watch him. I find it refreshing to hear someone openly speak about the ridiculousness of religions.

I agree with 110%. Do my comments seem otherwise?

3. I agee with most of his politics but he is an anti-religious bigot |
|
I personally can't stand anyone's personal beliefs being shoved down my throat, whether Christian, Muslim, or Atheist. Everyone has a right to their own beliefs without fear of persecution. Mahre crosses the line and needs to be called on it.

He's pretty misogynist, too. I'm wondering when someone's going to do a documentary on the ridiculousness of Bill Maher.

He truly puts religion in its brain-dead, archaic, moronic place.

11. You know what? I'm not at ALL religious, but I don't criticize people who are. |
|
It's just not my place to criticize the beliefs of others.
