5. Hey, check out this poll here:

You should have another look at what was said. I don't think Fineman was going too far in drawing the conclusion he did.

6. "drawing the conclusion"
In my opinion, if a journalist is going to "draw a conclusion," they should say that's what they're doing, instead of running with "The White House Caves On Bush Tax Cuts," putting words in the President's mouth.

I agree that the administration has been vague in its message and execution, which is why I won't believe anything anymore unless I hear the President himself say it.

Thanks for sharing!

Cheers

7. Huff Post's interpretation was right
he did cave. Of course he worded it so people could delude themselves if they wanted, and of course he walked it back and threw up some dust, but Huff Post and a lot of other progressives are on to his game and saw through it.

8. But...
He came right back saying the HuffPo interpretation was wrong.

http://www.cnn.com/2010/POLITICS/11/12/obama.tax.cuts/index.html?hpt=T2

"That is the wrong interpretation because I haven't had a conversation with Democratic and Republican leaders," Obama said of a Huffington Post article...

"Here's the right interpretation -- I want to make sure that taxes don't go up for middle class families starting on January 1st," Obama said at a news conference at the conclusion of the G-20 Summit here. "That is my number one priority for those families and for our economy. I also believe that it would be fiscally irresponsible for us to permanently extend the high income tax cuts. I think that would be a mistake, particularly when we've got our Republican friends saying that their number 1 priority is making sure that we are dealing with our debt and our deficit."

So either HuffPo had the wrong interpretation, as the President says, or these apparent progressives that are on to his game and "saw through it" think he's lying.

9. not lying, just being slick
notice the word "permanently". Huffington Post correctly interprets this to mean that Obama intends to temporarily extend the tax cuts, which if I remember correctly is how they reported the Axelrod story.

Isn't it interesting, Huff Post reports Obama will extend the cuts temporarily, Obama comes back and says "I won't increase the cuts permanently".

Similar to how earlier CNN asked Axelrod directly, will Obama veto an extension of the cuts "for a period of time", Axelrod answers that "absolutely" Obama will veto a permanent extension. Real slick!

10. Ultimately...
...it just seemed odd to me that only HuffPo had the story, which is a sentiment held by an article I saw on DailyKos (a very, very liberal blog). Not to mention the President explicitly saying that HuffPo's interpretation was wrong.

But just like health care, we won't know what happens for sure until it happens!
