Without the Leviticus quote on it, there is settled precedent on the matter.

3. Equivalent of "White Pride" |
|
Edited on Sun Nov-14-10 02:12 PM by Mrdie
In the latter case it's racists who think that their way of life is doomed forever because non-white people are becoming increasingly integrated (or trying to be) within the dominant socio-economic structure. In this case it's homophobes who are mad that gay people are becoming increasingly well known and publicized. It's not much different from the whole rap/hip-hop craze of the 80's and 90's which spawned plenty of racist idiocy, only I think we're spared a homosexual equivalent of Vanilla Ice.

This is not news!!! If you want to wear a black pride, women pride, gay pride or muslim pride tee shirt, wear it. Would you prefer to live in a country where people are not free to be proud of themselves?

To be honest, the shirt would have to say "Scared Angry Worried About Becoming A Minority White Pride"

the voice of straight people have been ignored for too long. For too long homosexuals have pretended that heterosexuals are not real or deranged, rare, sick, hiding in dark, forbidden places. It's time we realized that our coworkers, friends, neighbors and even family can be hetero. Straights are all around us....come out....come out and don't be ashamed you love the opposite sex!

9. "Pride" is maybe the problem... |
|
and why two shirts one saying gay pride and the other straight pride are not equivalent in our minds. Because we know the kinds of things straight pride and white pride entail.
Why should you be proud to be gay, or white, or anything else that you already are through no effort or decision on your own part? And people are hurt by it because the implication is that "I'm proud to be this therefore I'm really glad I'm not that."
It seems to me that pride is not the emotion we really mean to express. Rather it is solidarity, acceptance, joy, love.
Sometimes it is our language that gets us mixed up in moral equivalence. For example, I wouldn't attend a "straight pride rally," but I'd definitely go to a gay pride-style parade with more straight girls and a chance to celebrate my love for women. If it was anything like gay pride day, it would be pretty awesome.
