I recently watched one of my all-time favorite movies, "The President's Analyst." It's a comedy/thriller from 1967 and stars James Coburn.

Early in the movie there'a a scene with Godfrey Cambridge that is very serious where he tells a story from his youth directly into the camera. It's very well done, and reminds me of a similar story a childhood friend, who happens to be black, told me. I imagine there is such a moment in every black person's life.

Anyway, here's a snippet of the scene I found on youtube. The pertinent part of Cambridge's lines begins at about the 2 minute mark.

it, watch it. It would be dated in some ways, but much more relevent than you'd expect for political satire from the 60s.

2. Vintage Cambridge, thank you.

Oddly enough, Cambridge is one of the few comedians that I thought hilarious. My favourite schtick of his was the bit where he stands at the mic and says:

"We send them teachers. We send them missionaries. We teach them to write. And what do they write? Yankee, go home."

A movie with intellect. It definitely wouldn't be made with this level of gravitas today.

reminds me of my friend ronnie washington in 1st grade. his brother was a 3d grader, lonnie washington. lonnie was the baddest kid in lugonia school, no one could beat him up, not even art horta, who was henry horta's older brother. henry was my rival, he'd beat the shit out of me one day, the next i'd kick his ass for him.

at any rate, ronnie and i were good friends. one day this kid from arkansas named ramsay somethingorother showed up at school. we had okie and arkie friends so this new arkie was not exotic. but ramsay arrived with his slingshot, which was our word for it. ramsay's word was "niggershooter". i was a nigger, ronnie was a nigger. ramsay was going to shoot both of us with the niggershooter. ronnie and i were perplexed. we didn't understand ramsay's hatred, totally mystified. (don't know what ronnie knew but i didn't know until that day that i was a nigger, too). lonnie heard ramsay call his weapon a niggershoorter and astonished me and ronnie when, without further adieu shoved the slingshot up ramsay's ass for him.
