Views on DU: 871 | Dana Rohrabacher is a bonehead climate denier that wants to be chairman of the Science and Technology Committee in the new session. (see http://climatecrocks.com/2010/12/02/house-science-committee-to-become-anti-science-committee/) Richard Alley is one of the world's most accomplished Paleo Climate experts. Alley testified before the committee on Nov. 17 - here's what happens when bluster meets brains.

3. Climate deniers win the next two years by bullying legitimate scientists. |
|
Why am I not surprised? I wonder if we are in for more than two years of this idiocy!

6. I would say we are in for more GOP bullying... |
|
because the American people, or at least enough of them are subject to following bullies because they want to feel they have tough leaders. I would go as far to say most Americans are not really concerned with facts as much as they are concerned with having macho acting leaders. Talk Radio enforces this way of thinking by telling its listeners that Liberals are weak & if you buy into what they say you too are weak & less of man. Without some way of changing Americans attitudes in the face of a well orchestrated right wing media empire & a MSM that is AWOL I do not see a bright future. I think we will have to endure an even worse crash under the leadership of the GOP in order for enough Americans to wake up!

This shit is infuriating. Dana has no understanding of what climate change is, what a "climate" is, what physical geography is, or even what the make up of our atmosphere is. This dude has an understanding of science comparable to a 10 year old and he has the gall to attempt to play gotcha with one of the most respected scientists within this field. Its insanity, if that were a classroom Dana would be mocked relentlessly and never taken seriously again, but because its congress apparently science doesn't mean anything, its totally cool to just throw out random climate-skeptic talking points without any understanding of what he is saying.
The dude doesn't know anything, he doesn't listen to the professors answers and just continues throwing out questions that Mr. Alley already answered. Mr. Alley explains how our climate works in like 10 seconds at the beginning and Dana ignores everything he says and just moves on.

so disrespectful. Embarrassing really. If they had half a brain they would be embarrassed to be Republicans.

9. Dana forgot one question: |
|
Edited on Fri Dec-03-10 06:14 PM by Roy Rolling
here's how it should go: "Since I have already made up my mind that you scientists are wrong, how can you convince me that I am not a moron?" And as we all know, nobody can convince him of that. Bonus question from the scientist: "Dana, can you even spell "draconian?" and "how many other planets are in this hemisphere as you said?"

10. What gets me about Rohrbacher |
|
is his "gotcha" type look when he is asking his questions. Being clueless is dangerous but being clueless and not know it is nuclear dangerous.

11. GOP Talking Points vs. Science |
|
Science wins every time but only for people smart enough to follow the lines of argument.
Republicans aren't smart so they just don't get it.
