This can be hard to watch, but I'm encouraged by the number of strangers that stood up and spoke out against blatant homophobia. Good on them!

1. I like this show. It's sad how many people don't step in in some of the situations,
but this one was a little better. The response of the mother of the children with autism was particularly inspiring.

3. What if they had done this experiement in the middle of some blood Red state
The boy probably would have been confronted by a preacher offering to witness to him and "help" "cure" him.

8. It would be interesting to see but I am not sure it would turn
out how you think. I live in KS and a lot of people are generically homophobic with the love the sinner hate the sin bullshit. But, from what I have seen, they would probably counsel the mother to love her son and turn it over to God to handle. They might affirm to the boy that his mom and God still love him and only want him to live God's plan.

6. did not catch this episode but have seen the show and it is a good sociological study of
ethics here and human response to the presented situations , I mean, for a prime time show on ABC at least..... we do not watch it regularly, but when we do it always leads to some family discussion of....what would you have done??

The Muslim women trying to purchase in the bakery , and the white kids Vs black kids messing up a car episodes were almost sad!

7. I am going to have the GSA at my school watch it
on Tues the 14th. While I understand the fakeness of the setups can be a problem I do think it helps inform us of what people are willing to do in certain uncomfortable scenarios. I have to say that I still would likely advise a person who thought it might go badly, especially if they feared a physical reaction that doing so in public would be a wiser alternative than doing so in private, especially at home where the parent has total control.

9. unfortunately this is true
coming out in public, when you think it might go badly, can be safer for a teen who fears physical abuse. If a homophobic parent tried to get rough, someone would call the police
