2. Okay, this middle class thing may always have been a fraud
I mean, okay, we've all grown up beleiving in it but how true has it ever been, realistically?

If you look through history, ours and others, doesn't it appear that periods of supposed progress for the masses are periods when TPTB are otherwise occupied or weakened by one sort of misadventure or another? Yet, you keep coming across the same names and families, like the Bushes, holding the levers of actual economic and political power.

To simplify my point, we had a good run (especially those like me; white, retired, on pension and social security) but IMHO its over. Reality has once again dawned in the world and the Golden Rule is once again the law of the lands (and all lands, as it happens).

Those who have the gold make the rules.

And we ain't them.

3. I'm afraid you're right.
I'm in a similar situation as yourself, but not yet aged-in for a pension. I consider myself VERY lucky (and somewhat prudent) for having a reasonable hope for stumbling across the finish line.

I'm doing my damndest to provide something realistic for my son, who's 30. I see little hope for him having a decent middle and old age otherwise.

4. So, just roll over and accept it?
Frak that! That's exactly what they want, and if your attitude is "that's just the way it is," then you better wake the hell up.

5. When you have nothing ... you have nothing left to lose
I would not be surprised if tons of people stood in DC. While those inside enjoyed their parties,
the masses of people who had no homes, no jobs, no frickin food for their kids just stood on the lawn.
With nowhere else to go and nothing to do - where else would you go?

6. we're okay. i'm 69 and collecting
SS. hubby is 63 and still working, but he will get a nice pension when he retires. about 6 years ago his company eliminated the pension except for those who had many years of service. he's been with them 41 years. anyway now it's a 401k. the company does contribute 10%.

7. we have friends in new york city.
she's 65 and working. she pays almost $700 a month for health insurance. her husband is 62 and has some medical conditions. he's self employed. they have nothing saved. they managed to put their kids through college.

the other day i checked into section 8 housing in NYC. Guess what? they're not taking any new applications. they said if they get more funding they will. they also gave a phone # to call if you're homeless. said they'll direct you to a shelter.

and the rich get richer.

8. Reagan & Chimpy, Sr.
Did the same stuff. What saved us was Bill Clinton and the computer revolution and they expanded that. Chimpy Shrub came in and whoosh, there went $14 Trillion bucks into his 'base's' pockets.
Worst example of Treason in American history.

9. Taking us to war in Iraq
using false intelligence was the single greatest act of treason in U.S. history. But we must look forward and impeachment is off the table.
