"The War You Don't See" 2010 film by award winning journalist John Pilger. The new film is a powerful and timely investigation into the media's role in war, tracing the history of 'embedded' and independent reporting from the carnage of World War One to the destruction of Hiroshima, and from the invasion of Vietnam to the current war in Afghanistan and disaster in Iraq. Pilger's documentary films are always about the real stories that the global mainstream media groups do not tell tax payers and voters.

As weapons and propaganda become even more sophisticated, the nature of war is developing into an 'electronic battlefield' in which journalists play a key role, and civilians are the victims. But who is the real enemy? This is a remarkable documentary in which the winner of journalism's top awards for both press and broadcasting, including academy awards in the UK and US television, John Pilger, himself a renowned war reporter, questions the role the media in war. "The War You Don't See" asks whether mainstream news has become an integral part of war-making.

Focusing on the current conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq, Pilger reflects on the history of the relationship between the media and government in times of conflict stretching back to World War I and explores the impact on the information fed to the public of the modern day practice of public relations in the guise of 'embedding' journalists with the military. Featuring interviews with senior figures at major UK broadcasters, the BBC and ITV, and high profile journalists on both sides of the Atlantic, including Rageh Omaar and Dan Rather, the film investigates the reporting of government claims that Iraq harboured weapons of mass destruction.

"The War You Don't See" contains shocking never-seen-before footage from Iraq and Afghanistan and revealing interviews with former BBC reporter Rageh Omaar, former CBS anchor Dan Rather and the founder of Wikileaks, Julian Assange.

"The War You Don't See" is due to be released on Sunday 12 December 2010. The film will be televised on ITV UK on Tuesday 14 December 2010. It will be available on DVD from Monday 13 December 2010.

1. Better late than never. It'll relegated to PBS or some obscure channel.
Dam, these sort of movies really make me hate my fellow americans
who are more concerned with watching Dancing with Washed up Stars.

2. Excellent. I can hardly wait.
I'll bet I won't be able to find it on DVD around here.

3. He is one of the best investigative journalists in the world. He
has been on the ground reporting on the devastation of these wars for years. But none of his work was ever shown here that I recall. If it had, those wars would have lost support from the beginning.

I am sure he appreciates Wikileaks as he often felt very much alone trying to get the truth out about the real face of the wars, presented to the public here as if they were 'glorious battles' where the invaders are the heroes.

Thanks for the link, Turborama. I am glad he is still trying to get the truth out, it must be very disheartening for him to watch all this and to see the lies being told and especially to see the failure of the press to report the truth.

4. I recognized John Pilger from this video

This is from the 1970's concerning Nixon's responsibility for mass murder against Cambodia.

So he's been around a long time reporting on war. Too bad Americans don't normally see this type of stuff.

5. Yes, he has been around a long time. He is one of the most respected
journalists in the world. It is too bad we don't see his kind of reporting here in the U.S. but he is well known and well respected in Europe. Which may be why there never was much support for Bush's wars over there amongst the people.

The truth is that if we had a really free press here, there would be no wars since all of them, except for WW11, in the past six decades were wars for profit.

6. That is an indisputable fact, such a shame he doesn't get any exposure in the States
He was at Assange's court hearing earlier and made a statement outside the court house. This is the OP I posted about it, Maybe because he's not famous in the US it wasn't considered LBN worthy? http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x9714443

7. I did see that he was at Assange's hearing. He may not be well
known here, no good investigative journalists are permitted on the U.S. media, except for maybe NPR, but he IS known on Democratic blogs for his reporting on the illegal Bush wars. So, I don't know why it would not be worthy of LBN
