I love it how they turned the "everyone will go around raping people" argument back on him -- indeed, visit any prison Death Row and you will find plenty of born again Christians who are sure they are going to heaven despite their horrible crimes.

5. That was SO good.

The caller tried to use every bad argument Christian apologists are known for. Most telling was his suggestion that one doesn't have to read the Old Testament. Just read what Jesus had to say. Bad, bad argument for a religion who sects are often know for espousing the nonsense that the Bible is inerrant and the true, inspired word of God.

7. They're discussing the question that caused me to leave

the church. When I was about 12, the Sunday school teacher said it was as bad to think about sex with a woman as it was to actually have sex with her. That made me very mad, because I was at the age where sex popped up in my mind ALL THE TIME, and I certainly didn't want it to. I said, "But God made me, he gave me a sex drive which I have no control over, so how can it be a sin when God did this to me. I thought the sin was to act on your thoughts, not just think them." The s.s. teacher told me I was wrong, the thought was just as sinful. The teacher was a prude and frankly, an asshole. "But I have no control over what thoughts pop into my mind," I said. He was very annoyed by my questions. He then accused me of being a poor Christian and I should study the bible more. I said that I've already learned something from him. I said the next time I thought about boinking a girl, I was going to do my best to boink her. After all, the sin was already done. I walked out of church and never went back.

It wasn't the only reason I left the church, but it was the final straw.

Let's put the X back in Xmas.
