Edit: News just confirmed the suicide bomber had a bag filled with spikes.

Ten minutes before the blasts, Swedish news agency TT received an e-mail saying "the time has come to take action."

According to the news agency, the e-mail referred to Sweden's silence surrounding artist Lars Vilk's drawing of Muhammad as a dog and its soldiers in Afghanistan.

"Now your children, daughters and sisters shall die like our brothers and sisters and children are dying," the news agency quoted the e-mail as saying.

1. Note of caution: if an explosion goes off in your area
do not join a bunch of people running TOWARDS the explosion.

That is all.

2. Unless, you are part of the emergency services
and are required to risk hide to do such.

I will add something else. Do NOT stand by windows, get away from the zone, and find cover.

Usually going from car to car to car is a fairly descent choice... ENGINE BLOCKS, as long as you keep running away.

Oh and for press critters... at any scene where there is fire... if you see the fire department drop hoses and run... follow them! Actual funny story involving a local nooze channel.

4. But sometimes...
running toward the scene can give you the opportunity to help others out. It is not quite the same, but while I was coming home from the Hill Country last christmas, an SUV ran off the road and flipped on its roof. I didn't think at all about what to do. I got off the road, ran toward it, managed to wrench to back door off, and helped the people get out of the vehicle. I got the kids in the back. Another motorist helped those in the front seat. It just happened with no thought. No one was hurt, thankfully- just a bit shook up (as was I, once I stopped to think about it :) )

5. That of course is a different scenario.
To be clear, I was thinking of unknown source explosions.
Which sometimes are not limited to one.
And, in watching the news clip, once can see people being attracted to the blasts.
Dangerous.

6. Very different scenario
You see when you have a bomb go off, part of the MO these days by the terrarists, developed by the IRA actually, is to have a secondary, at times a tertiary device. If they got remote detonators, read cell phone these days... as EMS, FIRE and POLICE, or bystanders rush in... BOOM!

Why I preceded with unless this is your job.

As to helping people in wrecks absolutely. Here is one from my days still in EMS. I had my own hand held radio, I came home from work in Tijuana. and about two minutes from home a car went end over end, it was nasty. (kids were racing) I stopped, and tested my radio. I WAS STILL IN RANGE. So I called my dispatch in ANOTHER country and asked them to contact Emergency Services in San Diego and relay the emergency. we had land lines for that use. This is well before cell phones by the way. I also got kitted out and went to car, which was a turtle. Kid inside was badly hurt and the fuel line was broken, so it was leaking gas like a sieve. I still broke the window and got in and started emergency care.

To make a long story short, I got a response, staid with kid until well after Emergency Services got kid off... and then was asked by cops how? I pointed out that I don't think they'd appreciate it if I got on their channel... they nodded, and smiled. It was probably one of the strangest 911 calls dispatch ever got. And we all lived to be happy aver after.

8. How "Failed" Is A Suicide, When The Suidcider Is Dead?
.

My cynical meter is peg! So forgive me my silliness over your bad headline.

Isn't it a bit too convenient of a report of a 'terrorist' attack occurring in Sweden hits the news cycle? Color me jaded.

9. Trust me. It failed. My headline is just fine. -->
There are tons of details in the Swedish news that's not covered by international media.

10. It certainly makes it more likely
that Sweden will become a member of the neocon club.

I wonder if this guy's just a lone nut case or if there is a shady 'mentor' in the background somewhere.
