Wish she would've given some more specific examples, but still a great segment.

2. I saw this the other day
on my local channel. They described the Democrats as squabbling amongst themselves. That was the reporting the day of his filibuster.

4. Remembering a time, Rachel intrv w/ Obama
‎~ i just had a remembrance while listening to this description of how corporatist-media view and report on Democratic ideology ( ie, they view it as solely emotional & without any basis in fact) (note the corporatist myth making)----Anyhow..., i was reminded of this interview Rachel Maddow once conducted with Obama... in which she asked him if he thought that the Conservative Republican ideology of the past years had in fact proven to be beneficial for the country? It was a question based in fact that she was prepared to argue----however, Obama responded instantly with "..I know you've been cruisin' for a bruisin', lookin' for a fight out there...' <> Now...what can you say about that response? Emotionally defensive, much? It would seem the shoe was on the other foot here. i remember this interchange vividly from that time----and, reflecting on it now i see how it presaged the Obama mindset that many of us are despairing about today. He was eager to make light of questions from a liberal ---while at the same time, loathe to disparage or critique in any way the philosophy of the right. This has stuck in my mind since that occasion and, i was hoping that i might have over indulged its importance.
Not so ...simply shades of future past

21. Let's have a look at the original transcript...

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27464980/ns/msnbc_tv-rachel_maddow_show/

October 30, 2008 Transcript: Barack Obama talks to Rachel Maddow 5 days before election
The candidate discusses partisanship, ideology, U.S. infrastructure and his plan for Afghanistan

...

MADDOW: Now, they do that to you the same way. When they talk -- when John McCain calls you a socialist --
OBAMA: Right.
MADDOW: This redistribute the wealth idea. He goe -- he calls you soft on national security.
OBAMA: Yes.
MADDOW: That's not just an anti-Barack Obama script.
OBAMA: No.
MADDOW: That is -- he's reading from an anti-Democrat, and specifically an anti-liberal stance.
OBAMA: Absolutely.
MADDOW: And so, you have the opportunity to say John McCain, George Bush, you're wrong. You also have the opportunity to say,
conservatism has been bad for America. But, you haven't gone there either.
OBAMA: I tell you what though, Rachel. You notice, I think we're winning right now so --
(LAUGHTER)
OBAMA: Maybe I'm doing something right. I know you've been cruising for a bruising for a while here, looking for a fight out there. But, I just think people are tired of that kind of back and forth, tit for tat, ideological approach to the problems. Now, there is no doubt that there is a set of premises in the reigning Republican ideology that I just think are wrong. This whole notion, and then it's been captured by this back and forth about whether I'm a redistributor, I think is a great example. The notion that the progressive income tax, which was instituted by Teddy Roosevelt, supposedly John McCain's hero, is somehow un-American, I think is an example of how people have gone way off track.

6. Most Americans are liberal
Edited on Tue Dec-14-10 07:15 AM by Mosaic
Either they know it or not but they are mostly liberal. The inside the DC beltway media and politicians are so disconnected from the real world they sometimes refer to us as "the Americans". It's true. Thanks to forums, blogs, and web sites the "sheep" are taking back their country.

I like Rachel, but I wonder if all this concern about a rw media is turning into a self fulfilling prophecy. Fascists, corporatists, and assorted authoritarians must be terribly excited the sheeple are wetting their beds with their daily fears posted online that feed the oligarchy's imaginations. Rachel is the last honest voice of reason? Or a clever way to make us think nobody cares about liberals?

9. The M$M has an agenda.
That agenda is to promote the interests of corporations. They accomplish this through strict control of content. One of the greatest of these corporate interests is to (duh) further their own interests. Because liberals are rightly focused on corporate abuses liberal concerns go largely unreported. This is a fact. It is what constitutes basic media unfairness in this country.

7. The Beltway Media
They have always been useless to all of us. You have to go all the way back to Watergate to find decent journalism. Come on Rachel, these are the goons to cheer lead Bush & Obama War Crimes. They never saw a subside our bailout to the banksters or CEO criminals, they didn't love.

8. You can only convince the people that the country is conservative
if you only cover conservatives, quote conservatives.

Even O'Reily said to Bayh --The Democrats philosphy is
better and more appealing than Conservativism, but you
will not discuss your own Democratic Philosophy.

Likewise, the Corporate Media has becomes shills for
conservatism. Do not mention Liberal except negatively
and like Goebbels we can sell the big lie.

Like Newty told them to back in the '90's. There was even printed instructions on how to do this, with word lists to use when talking about liberals ("elitist", "traitors", "radical"...) and when talking about conservatives ( "heartland", "true Americans", "sensible"). It's deliberate propaganda.

12. And if a bit of liberal point of view somehow gets put out there . . .
The conservatives will start to howl about how "the liberal media" are "ruining this country."

The liberal stuff rarely hits the news. It mostly slip through in entertainment programming. That's been true of gay characters, whom the conservatives believe are put there as part of a "gay agenda".

It's interesting that, despite the freeze-out on liberal opinion, trends (if you ignore the noisy "Tea Party" types, are moving slowly in a progressive direction.

Its going on everywhere. Here there is only one major news talk radio station. Needless to say it slants to the right. Because they are the oldest and most listened to, as they brag, they infer that they speak for everyone, citing all the callers who call in supporting their various anti-left topics. But the reason they get so many callers of the same ilk is because they project to those listeners. After a while, liberal thinking people simply do not listen to it, and especially do not call in because they will only get ridiculed on air and not be allowed to get their point across, and then probably be insulted unilaterally after they get cut off.
