Democracy Now opens (at 1:30) with a Press Briefing of a Pentagon spokesman appearing to boldly lie to the American people & the press - point blank to a direct question. Jeremy Scahill appears on DN to discuss the WikiLeaks cables and how Blackwater and other special ops are involved much more directly than the powers-that-be would have us believe.

________

Just listening to that Pentagon spokesman's swagger at the clip's beginning should give you a complete picture on why they are so hot and heavy to get to Julian Assange. The problem is, the files have already been released - he is simply a target of their desperation. They think cutting of the head will disable the snake, when really they are dealing with an ever-dividing amoeba which has already given the cables to the press.

* note - sorry I did not find this clip earlier, as it will not appear on the homepage for being older than a few days... but well worth a watch (on edit, fixed typo)

1. I'm guessing this is Geoff Morrell. Let's see what the envelope says.

3. I started following him and the state dept guy he refers to,
PJ Crowley, when they were working during BushCo, to see if their noses would ever shoot out by inches and feet. :)

5. Can't find a very similar moment when PJ Crowley denies
we were turning prisoners over to be tortured by the Iraqis. That was the situation that led Manning to contact wikileaks. Amy covered it here (but the clip of PJ isn't in this segment).

6. Thank God for people like Scahill who are willing to get the truth out.
Even after taking calls from the Pentagon on his unlisted cell phone advsing him to not print it.

Now Assange. Can these guys ever get the support they need from those of us who need them?

7. I like how the spokesman interchanges 'Afghanistan' and 'Pakistan' without thinking

little freudian slip going on there - they don't see any difference between the two

8. "Incredibly forthright". There's not a word of truth that came out of his mouth
except for the conjunctions.
